Heated mirror not working (but still moves)

Featured Replies

Seems the heated part of my driver's mirror doesnt' work, it still moves and the other mirror heater does work.

New glass required? or something more?

This is often the first symptom of a creeping decay of the Skoda Octavia. Sadly once this process has started nothing but cosmetic patches can be carried out. Ie a new mirror will work for a few weeks then bang as bad as ever again. I would expect your car to be totally unoperable within 6 - 9 months.

Many have argued over what causes this, but no clear answers have been found. I will be thinking about you.

Have you move the mirror moving 'knob' back to the middle position?

Noticed this on my Fabia today. Passenger mirror doesn't heat at all and driver's one does, but not as much as I think it should ;) Is a new mirror glass required, or is the element situated behind the glass? 2nd question - is it a DIY job ;)

WTF, if you aint got anything constuctive to say please dont bother you idiot.

Goochie, the element is part of the mirror glass, its quite easy to change, in fact most dealers will stick it on for you if you get it from thier parts dept (i quite often do them for ours).

If you want to test it if your that way inclined you should pop the mirror glass off and check to see you have a 12v feed there and an earth, but usually its the glass that causes a problem.

Oh dear now you have me worried. Part of the illumination of my dash board instruments has failed. I thought that it was just a bulb, but could it be creeping decay as well
