Broken Flippy Key Fob

Featured Replies

Somehow I have managed to break my keyfob.

It's not as serious as it sounds however with the broken bit only being the bit that locks the metal flip section in place when open (meaning i can now simply push it closed without needing to push the button)

Not a big problem but freaked me out when i finished a journey went to remove my key from the iginition and found it at a jaunty angle!

Would it be posslbe to buy a new key from eBay reshell my immobiliser chip and specific metal section into the new fob?

youve prob only broke the little spring that keeps the key held in place, should be able to take one out from another fob and replace yours, ive done on other fobs, not a fabia one as yet but albeit a fiddly job its easily done.

Holy cow mate!!

You're not having much luck at the moment.

IIRC you can change the shell over, Buy a vw one but make sure it's 3 button (easier to find... probably cheaper) and just get a 99p key badge from ebay to make it skoda.

I'm fairly sure I've seen a guide on one of the ebay ads on how to do it.

I'll have a look later and if I can find it I'll post a link.

Mine went the other week too, just swapped it and make it my spare :giggle:

Would be nice how to fix it though?

Sounds about right i think i went to shut the fob the wrong way and it went twang and i only realised what i'd done when i noticed it was loose

Like you wouldn't believe!

heater resistor is packing up so no fan on position 1

window broken - laptop stolen

broken window has broken the winding mehcanism so that needs replacing

aerial snapped in half by scrotes

new aerial doesn't work as well as half an old one

and now the key is broken

i've also got a horrible sounding knock so probably have a loose exhaust heat/shield/broken spring

Any body fancy buying a VRS cheap :)

just swapped it and make it my spare

Not an option for me as i only have one key :(

take it apart ,if youve stretched it the wrong way the spring may have just come out of its locking position..
