CD Changer

Featured Replies

My TD PD estate came with a CD changer in the boot which had been a dealer option by the 1st owner. Aside from building a protective shell from MDF & carpet I've always thought that it was a bit vulnerable hanging from the boot wall on a bracket (as well as eating up space). Having read a few posts from vRS owners it seems the changer in them is located under the front passenger seat. Does anyone know if this would be possible in a non-vRS Fabia? When I 1st bought the car I tried a local car hi-fi dealer/fitter but he didn't seem remotely interested in the job since it didn't involve selling me anything.

Any help or info would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

G

G,

I've done this. My passenger seat has the storage compartment with the hinged door on the front. I fixed the CD changer to the bottom of the seat and cut part of the back off the storage compartment. I can still store CDs in the compartment.

This is it with the door open:

And with the door closed it looks standard:

Tips:

To get to the wiring, open the passenger door and gently prise off the plastic end cover from the side of the glovebox. Then use a T20 Torx bit to remove the five screws from the glove box (2 at the bottom, 3 at the top with the door open) and totally remove the glovebox.

Pull up the plastic trim from the sill carefully. I was only running as far as the front seat but your current wiring probably runs all the way along to the boot, so you may need to remove more.

The plastic panel behind the passenger seatbelt lies over the top of the sill trim, but also has plastic down behind it so it won't come apart very easily. You may be best to start with the upper panel at the roof and work down. Be careful because the clips are very strong and the plastic it not... If the metal clips get left behind you can prise them out and put the back on trim.

My wiring runs along the sill, then across the floor (under the carpet and soundproofing) and comes up in the middle of the seat.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

Ivan.
