Drive the deal ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys a am looking at getting a vrs tdi as a companion to a track / weekend use 500bhp Subaru. Price is very important as i am still getting over the cost of major work on the Subaru, however the offers from Skoda has tempted me to trade in my current 2nd car a old clio for something a little more sporty and practical.

I have been down my local Skoda agents both Bedford and MK and there prices seem to be a little high for my budget. After searching the web and here I came across drive the deal. Great price around 1k off the dealer price however i do have an issue with the idea of the car being delivered from the other side of the country being driven by somebody who has no interest in running the car in. I phoned drive the deal to try and get an idea of how far away the dealer would be so I could pick the car up and they seemed very uncomfortable with this questioning. He told me that i could have it transported to my location but once again without knowing how far this would be he could not give me an idea of cost.

Any feedback advice would be great, i am happy to go with the online deal but feel like I need an idea of how far it would be for me to go and collect the car in person. Would any local dealers match this price ?

thinking of a red vrs with leather, xenon and trip computer.:thumbdown:

The DTD price of £17,264 is very good.

When I contacted Drive the Deal they were happy to tell me the approximate location of the dealer and how far away it was from me. In my case the dealer is in west London.

I believe they may also use a dealer in the Midlands or north of England?

According to my contract I'm not allowed to reveal the name of the dealer, but many other people have posted the name of the dealer that supplied their DTD cars on this forum ;)

Likewise I wasn't happy with someone else driving my new car, so I'll be picking it up from the dealer.

Why not try taking the DtD price to your local dealer and seeing if they can match it, mine got within £110 of the deal, which was close enough for me...

EDIT: I actually went to the three closest dealers, 2 couldn't get anywhere near it, whereas the third (and closest) did.

thanks i will have a read, I would have been more than happy to go with the drive the deal price if he had said its 2 hours drive away etc etc travailing is not really an issue as long as its not a massive distance. MK skoda are getting back to be, think i will get on the phone to a few others.

Thanks guys

+1. Although the DTD price is quite a bit cheaper, you should be able to get a price at a local dealer closer than a £1K difference. A number of people, including myself, have managed to do deals that were a lot closer to the DTD price. You might find it v difficult to get a price match, but should be able to get within a few hundred. Depends how close you need to get tbh, and how prepared you are to spend time haggling.

I've sent you a PM. Done the best I can for you but it's still more than DTD.

I have purchased from Palmers in Watford.

Did not manage to get the DTD price, but he worked hard, and I wanted to use as local a dealer as possible. (talk to Oliver)

Good luck with whatever you do.

I emailed the DTD price to every dealer in the country - ended up with my 7th nearest dealer beating the DTD price by £250. Most replied saying they couldn't get anywhere near the DTD price but a few wouls match it & a couple (only 2 - that is a couple!!) could beat it.

I found emailing was the best option as it lets the dealers think about it & look into it. Also with phoning the dealers you may just speak to the greasy saleman who doesn't have enough clout to give the discount you want, with emailing it get sent to the sales manager to deal with.

In my email I also put that I have a car that I may part ex or sell privately and asked what they would offer as a part ex.

Gee.... Thanks a lot mister...

Oh and as far as I am aware DTD use Rainsworth Skoda (Nottingham way I think) & Marlborough Skoda (London).

I get £50 cash if I recommend someone to my dealer who beat DTD by 3250 so pm me and I'll let you know

Dm keith in Bradford are still giving £2500 part ex for bangers, what you expect from px?

When I spoke to DtD they werent interested in PX at all

When I bought my first vRS, I got the DtD price, and then haggled to within £200ish of it which I was happy with to not have to take a day out my life to travel to London and collect the car (London area was the supplying dealer at the time).

Added to this, the dealer I used was fantastic and I feel I got my £200 worth out of dealing with them by fone/email/face to face. Peace of mind for me.

Now that I have come to change for a FL vRS, I spoke to 2 local dealers including my original supplier, one an hour away, and one whom gets a good review on here (read: matches the DtD price).

The people who could offer more signficant discount wouldnt get near the trade price offered against my current vRS by the local dealer. Couple others I spoke to wouldnt do much at all.

In the end, my original dealer got repeat business by offering :

- Great trade in, fixed til I get the new car with no mileage limits or that nastiness

- £200 more off the cash price of the new car relative to the Skoda -VAT deal

- Transparent figures, excellent customer service, willingness to haggle

I reckon I paid about £500 more for my car than the dtd. I know that there is somebody in west london, but it is a couple of hours round trip.

£500 is a lot of money, even spread over 5 years, but I wanted the reassurance that I could 'pop in to a dealer to resovle issues'

thanks guys keep the ideas comming, sounds like asking some of the local dealers to see what they can do. shame really if DTD had given me an idea of distance then i would have had one on order by know. being in mk i seem to be ok for either of those 2 DTD dealers.

thanks guys  its going to be a long 12 weeks.

thanks for the advice, a little to far away but thanks for the help.

bluvrs2 its a clio looking at 2.5k as a trade in.

fraserpants i will pm you later

If your local dealers can not get close I would not worry about someone driving the car to you with DtD. I went with a similar company a while ago for a Renault Clio and got it delivered. The drivers are professional people who deliver cars for a living. They are not going to thrash your new car since if they did they would be out of a job very quickly. Your 'new' car will already have been driven by numerous people at the docks etc. so any one of them could have thrashed your car as much as the delivery driver.

As above I managed to get my local dealer to get with a couple hundred pounds of the DtD and webuyanycar exchange price so well worth a haggle.

now a VRS owner pick it up 1 sep, RED VRS tdi  MK skoda came up with a good PX . Thanks for all your help

I've been looking to order a 2.0 TDi vRS - the base price on DtD is £16k. Been to 4 local dealers now [bristol, Newport, Swindon, Gloucester], none have been willing to haggle much off the vat-free price of £17k - and that's with no part ex. I keep getting the "we only get 1% margin" story which I find very hard to believe when Marlborough can discount by nearly 6% through DtD.

Will email some a little more further afield, otherwise it'll DtD for me.

We travelled Hull to Zebrugge last year. You want to see those guys thrash the cars round the docks to get them loaded onto the boat. No wonder 1 in 5 new cars are damaged before first reg.

My local dealer in Swansea got with a few hundred pounds of the DtD price so could be worth a try since fairly close to you. However, I had a trade in so between the price of the car from them and the trade in value they gave for mine the deal was pretty much the same changeover price as DtD and webuyanycar.

Thanks for the heads up. Family still live in Swansea so might give them a try. Also been told to get in touch with Central in Birmingham who seem to have done a great deal for a fellow Briskodian.
