If it has done low mileage and stood around you might have water in the fluid - it should be changed every two years anyway and I bet it's never been done. If nothing obviously wrong (leaks etc) and no warnings, I'd try flushing and getting new fluid into the system. HTH

The vRS seems to have a lot of people complaining about the brakes...

Personally I like the pedal travel and feel of them...

If it's sharp brakes you want... Get an SDI Fabia. They have drum brakes on the rear

and by christ does it stop!!! :o

They can reduce you from the driver of the vehicle to a stain on the inside of the

windshield in under a second :D

When we switch cars (very) occasionally and she drives mine....

Being her passenger is thoroughly poo inducing!

She's so used to ridiculously sharp brakes combined with low power,

Mine is the opposite of hers sooooo...

I can now turn my underpants inside out without either removing or touching them....

Seriously though... If you're that bothered mate... Get the 312mm conversion done...

That seems popular with the fast furby lot on here....

That, coupled with the awesome nose-dive if you had to jab them on sharpish still gives me nightmares!

now THAT sounds like fun! Good brakes have that effect on me too...

not just the fast furby's, but also the moderates....having said that, I was mightily impressed with the performance of my 312's around the Evo triangle last week! :giggle:

OP i'd fully recommend a 312mm upgrade if/when you decide to change or upgrade your pads and discs - costs are not outrageous, plus you can buy the cheaper OEM disks in the future  in the meantime, do the fluid - it makes a big difference.

well, it's advised to check that the seatbelt-locking mechanism works properly at the start of each journey.... :)

When was the last time you checked the pads?

When I 1st bought my vRS the brakes were a bit weak but after a full service, new pads and fluid they were great!

That'll have been a couple of years ago come this November and they've started getting a bit rubbish again.. Still stopping me though and haven't had any ABS moments yet but seeing as the fluids coming up for a change I'd go with the fluid being the problem on yours as well.

Not sure what's wrong with mine though.. but ya know if you slowly lift your foot back of the brake to come to a gentle stop, the pedal isn't as smooth/ linear under your foot as it used to be.. kinda lumpy like the pedal it's self needs oiling.... Think I may have a build up of corrosion though.. booked in at Browns on Friday and I'll let you know what they say in case it helps.

pads are fine, think it is gona be the fluid. gona have to change it next week.

If you had empty brake fluid bottle you need to set ABS to basic setting. It needs VAG/VCDS. If you bleed brake system like old brakes. Before you start up engine. Press the brake pedal few times to get brakes to operating position (ABS pump won't do it). Then start up engine and do some test drives with hard braking and ABS activation. If your brakes still rubbish, check all brake lines/connections for leaks and replace factory brake hoses for Godridge stainless steel ones for example. Standart brake hoses perish very quickly and cannot hold well high pressure in brake system, especially in dump salty UK island (no offence guys. there is just falling everything apart due salt island climate)
