Old girl does it again

Featured Replies

Took my 2001 165k miler 110TDi in for her MOT this afternoon (final slot of the day), and she passed. Only advisory was on the rear offside tyre being nearly down to legal limit.

I'll check what the black smoke cloud readings were in the morning, but she was left idling for the best part of 70+ mins during the test, so generated a few clouds to start with!

Downside was I needed a few windscreen fitting which I had done this morning, the bloke lopped through my cable supplying power for my w8 mod :( Still at least I saw it, and insulation taped up the wires.

Well done mate!

I should add my prep work was:

- book new windscreen fitting

- wash car

- vacuum car

- replace rear wiper blade

- check lights work

Still soon be service and cambelt time, so maybe I'll get my hands dirty then.

That's better than mine and its done 100,000 miles less!

My car was:

2.98

2.16

1.47

Average 1.89.

However, it had just done several weeks of town driving and I had not given it my customary pre-test blast down the motorway.

I'll pull my figures for last year when I get home, but I am sure they were much more like yours. My air filter is nearing the end of its 30k service interval, and I did not put any injector cleaner (etc) in either this year.

My average was 0.57

Just had a look at mine - 1999, 105,000 miles, remapped, original injectors (never cleaned or rebuilt)

Limit: 1.50 l/m

Test 1: 0.40 l/m Fast Pass

Was serviced (by me) just before MOT, but no new air filter or additives.

How come your Limit is half of what mine is?

Not remapped, and I am on original injectors too (never touched them)

Seven of us bought the exact same model (new) at the same time and mine has always been better than the others. Five of us still have them. We have done similar mileage on the same roads and they have all been serviced correctly - usually by me with the same oil, etc. All the cars have the same map and were done within days of each other.

The smoke tests this year are as follows

0.40

0.49

0.53

0.54

0.62

I think driving style accounts for the difference. I would say I am the smoothest and the guy with the 0.62 treats the throttle more like an on/off switch.

All the cars spend their life in free flowing traffic so have a relatively easy life.

What is the difference between a Fast Pass Limit and a Pass Limit?

I rarely abuse my car.... but it does have turbo issues, so maybe that explains mine!

My 110 flew through the test a few weeks ago 89k 52 plate. Tester who is a very good friend of mine & doesn't pass it just because I'm a mate, says that Octavia's test very well & not many fail with serious problems.
