Treacle gearbox

Featured Replies

Over the last few days the car has developed a new quirk, when I'm stuck in traffic the gearbox turns to treacle and I can't change gear without it feeling likee am doing damage to the car. I found that if I leave the car to rest for 20-30 minutes or after 5 minutes of 30+ speeds the car will change gear again with no issues.

Before i call skoda about getting it investigated under warranty, has anyone had this happen to them before.

When you are in traffic - do you have your foot on the clutch all the time ? - Check the brake fluid reservoir to see if it is low - also check the clutch slave cylinder for leaks.

Have you checked the oil level in the gearbox ?

Always put the handbrake on in traffic, as for the fluids the brake fluid is fine. How do you check the gearbox oil, will ring Skoda later today as its becoming annoying.

Even though you use handbrake - do you keep the clutch pressed down and car in gear ?

Could be air in clutch fluid - needs bleeding

Gearbox Oil Level

put car on level ground

Take off the undertray.

There is a plug in the front face of the gearbox - take it out and see if oil dribbles out - if not - squirt some in until it does - then put plug back in.
