Just got car back from service...

Featured Replies

Just got the vRS back from its service in which it had the cambelt changed. Found out the flywheel and clutch are well on thier way out and apparently the car judders severley when pulling away (Something that I've somehow not noticed since buying it - I always assumed if it juddered when I pull away then its probably wheelspin or the traction control cutting in). The clutch isnt slipping at all and its the flywheel thats causing the problem - the technician did explain it to me, something about the plates not being fully flush or something but most of it went way over my head.

They want £1074 for the fly wheel and clutch to be replaced which I definately cant afford at the moment so I was wondering if theres any cheaper way of getting it done?

ouch

Give Skoda UK a call and see what they say about good will gesture... its dependent on mileage and if you speak to someone in a good mood!

Otherwise buy the parts yourself cheaper and then get them to fit, its about a 4 hour job, so £250 ish on labour.

Cars done 71k miles, where can I source the parts from?

TPS and GSF off the top of my head or a supporter of the forum - ie JKM, Unit 18, Awesome etc

They could do the work cheaper too.

Just had a quick look round some of the names you've got listed there and they're all a fair journey away (I live in Kent). Is there anywhere I can get it done closer to me? or maybe I'll tie in getting a new clutch fitted with a remap :D

Which Skoda dealer did you go to as i'm from Kent... can recommend a good Skoda dealer :D

Don't know what you've been quoted for the parts? TPS book lists the RRP of the clutch & DMF kit for the MkI Octavia 1.9TDi (IIRC) as £253 + VAT. As has been suggested, might be worth buying the parts yourself and supplying them, either to a Skoda dealership, or an independent garage..?

Holy shish kebab!! There having a bubble right?

I got a helix and smf for 830quid and fittd for about 50 notes :)

my motto is if it aint broke dont fix it, my fabias had a rattly flywheel for the past 2 years / 35k miles and its all gravy at over 200bhp

Dartford is the dealer I use. Maybe I'll just go for a remap, let the clutch/flywheel blow up completely (which it may not) then replace it? Does the clutch/flywheel take anything with it when it goes?

I didnt bother asking for a breakdown of the £1k price tag - was still in shock :o
