Dilemma!

Featured Replies

Im in the market for a VRS and ive come across 2 im interested in. Thing is theres about 2 grand difference between the 2 cars.

The expensive one is a 07 plate done 28000 miles, wheareas the cheaper one is a 06 plate having done 41000 miles. Any suggestion which one I should go for? Money wise Ive done the math and I think id be ok on both but I wanted a second opinion reliability wise...Im guessing the 06 plate will need its cambelt looking at soonish if it hasnt already???

Negotiate the price of cambelt doing off of the 40000 mile one. It's not even run in yet!

Decision made ;)

Wow I had EXACTLY the same dilemma! I'll reply more in a bit..

Really depends on your situation mate.

Have you been to see both cars?

For me it would be based on seeing the car first hand, inspecting paint work and general condition. If both are pretty much the same then its a question if you are going to be spending anything on the car, such as modifications e.t.c. If you are it would make sense to buy the cheaper car, spend the money on the cambelt (Neg the price of the car for this) and then you have money for any modifications if you wish.

Also mileage was a factor for me . I do quite a few miles a year, so I bought a car on fairly low mileage (55k) rather than 70k.

Many factors mate :)

Ok I'm back.. my choice was between an 07 Blue LE ~28k? for £9k or an 06 36k for £7k.

Cond. on the LE was little better (and 1 owner as opposed to 2) but I felt £9k Fabia.. it really did have to be special because it was approaching 1 series bmw prices.. I went for the cheaper option in the end as they took my p/x in for £500 more. Depends on the grand scheme of things.. my fabia will be a daily commute eventually.. Also eventually I would want a weekend car....

Theyre both about half an hours drive away from me, so I wont really get a chance to see them til the weekend. And with my experience so far, VRS's seem to be selling pretty quickly so Im keen to put a deposit down on one ASAP before I lose both. Not really the way to go about it I know, but when your current cars setting you back 45-50 quid a week you cant exactly wait around much! They are both from main dealership garages (not Skoda) too so Id imagine theyre in decent enough condition...*he says*

BTW, the front grille on yours, love it :D

Thats what I thought. For 9k I could get a decent-ish A3 or something along those lines. Ill be doing about 10k per year in it and usually change my cars every 2 years or so, so if I decide to resell Ive got some leverage I guess...

If it was a normal VRS for £9k I'd go for the cheaper one, If it was the limited edition version theres a little more to think about (as LE's have added extras which made it worthwhile).

*LE - only 1000 made, leather seats as std, ESP standard, limited edition colour, other little things. I would suspect it has better resale value. The LE I was looking at was at the Watford Skoda dealers. HTH.

LE colours blue storm right? As funnily enough there is one I saw for about 9 and a half grand with only 23k on the clock...

EDIT: Yes it is an LE, spotted the red calipers on it! Now the plot thickens....

I know what you mean and if your anything like me you want it now!... However, I strongly suggest you go and view both cars mate. I really do. You will know what one you prefer after you see both of them. I went to see one from a dealer up in London, the photos looked mint, however in person the car was very average, dull paint work, scratches all over it e.t.c.

I know what your saying, but Ive already seen 4 go from under my nose! But Im oretty set on the one I want TBH.

Quick update: Im gonna go for the cheaper car. Managed to go down and see if after work today and it looked in good order, even had cruise control fitted (and a pack of Rennie and a biro in the cubby hole!) which was a bonus. Only thing is its at a Toyota dealership and they seemed pretty iffy about a part exchange, but Im gonna go back tommorrow morning for a test drive and all being well it will be mine

Good work getting your car.

Sounds a beauty.

Welcome to the vRS club

Cruise was something I specifically had to have on mine.

Any other option just wasn't that important. That said, at the time I didn't realise it can be easily

retrofitted for around £170 at main dealer.

However, I use it to keep my licence.... More of a speed limiter than cruise.

Coming from a 1.4 mpi you'll appreciate the surge of power you get with the vRS

all the more and it's addictive.... That's the problem.... Cruise means I don't have to worry

in those damn average speed roadworks that seem to be the norm these days.

It means I don't look down in town and suddenly realise I'm strumming along at 50.

And of course it does what it's supposed to do as well making long journeys more effortless.

I was surprised when I noticed. It didnt mention anything about it in the advert so it was a nice bonus, makes motorway driving abit more easy!

The power is awesome. I shall have to tone it down abit though, Im getting abit leadfooted and fear becoming one of those drivers that people watch drive past and mutter 'W**ker'...

Gratz mate. She looks very clean.

What year, millage et.c.? Did you get it from a dealer?
