Wheel Bolt

Featured Replies

One of my wheel bolts is cross threaded and i dont know how.

Went to my mechanic and was told that the wheel hub and bearing would have to be replaced =(

Anyone know what the part numbers would be and a general price

Think im going to try and run a thread chaser through first

Cheers

Simon

yes try and re tap the thread if you can, when doing so use plenty of lub and dont go mad at it, just give it a half turn and then a turn in the opposite direction ( to remove any crap) the another turn more, and then on opposite direction.... you will mess it up if you just try and screw it on in...

Is the thread bad or so-so, if its kinda ok, i would not worry to much, you have another 4 bolts that are sound , just nip up the defective bolt and and dont swing on it when tightening it :)

Its not too bad.

I think its damaged the bolt more than the threads so hopefully i can save it

If the thread in the hub is damaged you could use a helicoil.

You should test the "re-tapped" hole with a good bolt and torque wrench set at the recommended wheel bolt torque . If the thread strips have it repaired with a Helicoil . Relying on only 4 bolts is asking for trouble. The bolts also clamp the brake disc to the drive flange.
