Oil in boost pipes

Featured Replies

from having a turbo car in the past i know a little oil always finds its way into the boost pipes no matter how new etc everything is, ive noticed the other day though that at the lowest point of the pipes on the drivers side a little oil is dripping from the pipe joint

my car has never used any oil in the time ive had it (~18 months) and has been serviced twice using all genuine parts/oils etc, i see ~45mpg and ive no warning lights or excess smoke issues, in fact its rare i see much smoke from the back at all even when overtaking, obviously a little but its no james bond smoke screen like some ive seen lol

should i just clean/wipe around the pipes and leave it, is it normal for a little to collect at the bottom

you need to purchase a catch tank as this will happen all the time as the crank case and rocker cover breather system vent straight into the tip pipe so all tha oil will coat your turbo and boost pipe work and intercooler wich is really bad

a catch tank will eliminate this

if you remove your side mount i bet there is half a pint of oil in there lol wich in terms of problems will mean the side mount will not be working properly

bad design by skoda imho

tbh id rather not do any mods to the car/engine if i can avoid it, im done with tinkering

He means side mounted i/c as opposed to a front mounted i/c, which is a popular mod.

aha, is the intercooler easy to remove and 'drain' if it has any oil in it

also if i take it off am i likely to need to renew any clips or seals ?

The only way to clean it properly is remove it and steam clean the inside. If you don't have a steam cleaner then pour some Jizer or similar de-greaser into it and then flush out with water, the same goes for the pipework. Judging by what you have already said its just the lower pipes that need cleaning. If you have plenty of time on your hands then go ahead and clean the whole i/c and pipes.

Or my personal favourite, give it the thrashing its designed for and blow it all out the exhaustemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

lol i think it could probably do with it, as tbh i do nurse my cars and on a diesel i guess it can just clog things up

i cleaned it tonight with some Stop Quick, all the gunk came off pretty quickly, the car is currently on 66k, pic below is before i cleaned it off, ill probs take another pic tomorrow
