Non starter!

Featured Replies

OK so for the last few weeks we have been having problems and today it has given up.

The engine revs are accompanied with a tapping sound and the car was difficult to start.

Took to a garage due to engine management light coming on - they said it had a coil pack problem fault. They 'deleted' the fault and it seemed to work, but still strange sound continued.

1 week later (today) car won't start - starter motor is working but wont kick in to life.

Can't bump start it.

My Dad takes off the coil pack and has a look at the valves.

3 are stuck, he gets one of them moving and tries to get others to move.

Once we have 2 moving it sounded a little better but still not going.

All I want to do is start it to get it to garage - any ideas anyone?

In the first place, if you had a failed coil pack, didn't the garage replace it!?

No they reset the fault.

However, I don't see how this can be the coil pack if the valves are stuck?

Can I do anything to 'unsitck' the valves?

Seems odd that they have stuck. Is there enought oil getting to the top of the engine. I assume this is a 1.4MPi which is basically a 1.3 felicia engine.

It is a 1.4MPi. Would this happen with a failed coilpack?

I have just checked and there is plenty of oil getting to the top of the engine.

I have lathered the valves with redex this evening. Will try again in the morning.

Any other suggestions on this one please guys?

Any ideas on this guys - getting pretty deperate!

OK well we got it going. The redex and a little persuation with a few taps on the stuck valves and she is working again.

Not sure what has caused this or if it is going to happen again.

I am going to buy some more redex and put into the petrol.
