Springs / Coilies

Featured Replies

Sorry for another suspension thread, but I didn't really want to hijack any of the others currently running.

I have a second hand set of Eibach springs sitting in a box at home, got them cheap with only 3k use on them. The idea being that I'd get some shocks and chuck it on the car when I have some more cash. They've been sitting there quite a while but now I'm closing in to the time I have 'spare' cash, I'm realising that a decent set of shocks (Eibach/Koni/etc.) are around the same price as I can get the Weitec Hicon GT coilovers.

I'm really after a more solid ride, with less of the wallowing and rolling you get from the standard setup, not got to worry too much about potholes or speedbumps. But then I'd probably not drop coilovers too much lower than the Eibachs would take it.

What do people think is the better choice, get the coilovers and sell on the springs, or put the money into some decent shocks and use the springs I have? Considering the cost is about the same, or possibly cheaper for the coilovers if I sell the springs on?

If you get coilovers you have the choice of lowering as much as you like. I think Eibach springs won't lower enough for you.

Im in a similar boat. Just had mine remapped, and will be getting the suspension sorted out soon.

Initially i thought about putting eibachs on, but for the price and fitting, i thought i might as well replace the shocks, and opted for the weitec's (might have the AP's depending on budget)

Im only going to drop it down 30/40mm anyway. Im not wanting to slam it, but want to stiffen it up, but still looking OEM...

Id personally get rid of the springs, and get some coilovers.

i think coilovers are best if ur talking about lowering it more than the springs

ur car will sit nicer for u

im in the market for a set of Eibach springs because the wife drives

it most and she would not like it to low

if u decide to sell pm me and ill buy them cheers mark

would these fit the vRS? i know someone who has these on his Polo, with18" wheels. Says it handles great and still not too bad a ride quality.

Personally I think their they gash!

My mate had them on his golf for 2 months and ****ing hated them plus a spring broke on them, now he's running AP's I wouldn't put them on my furby but it's upty you buddy the only thing they have got going for them in my eyes is their cheap as chips!

I'd say go for the Weitec Hicon GT's, great piece of kit that deliver massive handling improvements whilst stiull retaining comfort.

You also get the benefit of being able to set the height exactly how you want it.

Seems like the consensus is for the coilovers. Is there anything else I'd need to change with them? Droplinks etc?

Or anything else suspension-wise worth changing while they're off?

Depending on the miles covered it'll be worth while changing the top mounts as well, after that it would just be any bushes that are worn with the front wishbone bushes being a popular choice to change.

Alls i will say is...... RACELAND!

FWIW the coilovers will need regular maintenance and greasing to prevent adjuster rings etc sticking.

If you want a fit and forget, then I'd consider going for the springs and shocks, if you're happy to do the maintenance then I guess it's which suits you more and works out best for your money.

Just out of interest I'm about to put some of my money towards some coilovers. however the OP mentioned different droplinks. Are these necessary if I am wanting to have my car dragging is a**e along the floor?

Not with AP, Weitec or KW apparently!

Cheapo Coilovers

anyone had any experience with these? and would they need different droplinks?

You'll most likely need need drop links with those ones.
