Power Steering problem

Featured Replies

OK the plot thickens following this post here...

Previous PAS post

The story is...

Initially no PAS and the PAS light on the dashboard. Then the next time it was started PAS came back ok. Restarted and no PAS.

Faultcodes read low voltage so connectors etc. cleaned up and battery checked out OK. PAS subsequently worked for two days then stopped again. Assumed a dodgy connection.

Topped up PAS fluid (was low), still no PAS.

Now getting PAS and Airbag faults/lights.

what to look at now folks given the fault cosed and that it doesn;t seem to be angle sensor or pump as its booked in to a dealer for next week unless I can sort it...

With the steering and airbag lights both coming on, I would initially think that there is a power supply problem.

I saw one the other week with no PAS and the light on, on a restart PAS (no light on) and no codes stored in the steering controller. This turned out to be a problem with the controller, which a new pump sorted out (we haven't heard otherwise from our customer).

I arrived at the conclusion that the pump was at fault as when running a complete scan with no PAS, the steering controller did not show up at all and there were steering communications errors with other controllers. I ruled out the sensor, as when the steering came back I was able to read the steering wheel speed in a measuring block, which corresponded to how fast I was turning the wheel.

It needs a good VCDS session, to aid the diagnosis.

Take heart, we've got another Fabia pending at work with ABS faults. VCDS is telling me that it has got three faulty ABS sensors, which I find hard to beleive.
