Autoglym lifetime protection pack and the GAP insurance policy

Featured Replies

The dealer is pushing for Kitten and I to purchase Autoglym lifetime protection pack and the GAP insurance policy.

I understand the GAP insurance and am keen to opt for it but is the Autoglym treatment pack worth getting??

Has anyone else gone for these??

What's your advice or comments please

Gap insurance can be bought much cheaper online, try Click4gap for example. As for the AG LifeShine, I'll leave the detailers to fill you in. But this link says quite a bit re LifeShine

Thanx Will, I'll just have GAP insurance and have bookmarked the link.

Many years ago I used to be Tech Manager and used to sell Autoglym products so I know how good they are (carnuba wax etc.......)

Only ordered our SM Wednesday so have got a LONG time to decide :'(

Macdemon,

The best gap insurance I've seen is with http://www.ala.co.uk - this is the one I will sign up with when the car arrives? Better value than the garage and I will also probably go with the 4 year option.

I opted for the AG LifeShine as one of the benefits I was offered, by the garage, was an additional top up car valeting every three months for as long as I owned the car - that seemed like a good deal?

I really wouldn't bother with the Autoglym Lifeshine from the dealers. For the same money, you can get a professional detailer to spend ALL day doing a far more thorough job than the garage will. This will include removing any contaminates from the paint before applying the sealant which is essential if you want a proper job done of it. The guys at the dealers will just apply the sealant straight over the paint as it came from the factory and we've had a few threads already about contaminated paint or so called "fall out".

Yes, you can buy the proper Autoglym kit from Ebay for about £10 with the only omission being the warranty. It is very easy to apply - you just need to ensure that the paintwork is spotlessly clean beforehand. I guess that these kits result from dealers not needing to apply all of the product and simply buying a kit per car to obtain the warranty certificate. The bottle of paintwork treatment would probably do three cars!
