First impressions............

I haven’t had the Octavia for long (only 3 days and 120miles so far) but thought I’d give my first impressions. I chose the 1.6TDI CR as I just couldn’t live with a PD after a CR diesel Renault, if the 140 2.0TDI CR was out back in March then I would have ordered that.

Performance:

After reading comments on this forum and elsewhere I was worried whether the 1.6TDI had enough for a car such as the Octavia Estate. My last car was a 1.9dci Laguna so most comparisons will be drawn in respect to that.

Any worries were soon gone as soon as I drove off from the dealer. As expected it isn’t going to set your pants on fire anytime soon but it has more than enough if you drive accordingly. It has typical characteristics of a common rail engine with very good flexibility with power from low down and doesn’t run out of power too soon.

Now to the bad points (or point). The gearing just isn’t right for this engine and car combination, it could do with another gear or different ratio. Maybe the DSG would be better suited for this engine?

Equipment:

The only options I specced was Maxidot and Xenons. Maxidot was a must as I didn’t want to go back to the dealer every time I needed to go aboard. At the moment I’m still unsure whether the Xenons are worth it as it isn’t bi-xenon. High beam is just disappointing compared to my MINI which just lights the dark into daylight. However the AFS and dynamic angle control is quite a nice feature to have.

As you would already know the Octavia isn’t shy of toys in Elegance spec and I’m loving the bolero and parking sensors. I have also fitted fitted a Fiscon basic plus Bluetooth, just need to code it then hopefully I can have it displayed in maxidot aswell.

I’m sure it’ll get better as time goes on but if these 3 days are anything I’m sure I’d love it.

We decided its name is Sadie. You can rest assured I didn’t name it. ;)

Very nice ado - any chance of some more photos?

Keen on a white estate myself just needing to convince SWMBO.

Many thanks.

I like the white myself and I am more convinced by seeing your snaps. Did you think about the sunset glass for the rear windows? Nice contrast against the white(?).

I also like the fact white paint does not cost extra - why should a certain colour of paint add £400 approx to the price of a car, you dont get that 'extra' back when you come to trade in.

Cheers.

Oil Temperature? Bend Lighting?

I don't get that on mine! Are they for MY10 cars or is it buried deep within all Maxidot?

Bend lighting is only available on cars with Xenons and the oil temperature is standard on newer cars as part of the Multifunctional display (i.e. you can scroll to it on the trip computer)... Not sure when that came in though but it was included in the addendum to my manual in my late 2009 build car

If you have a pre-facelift car then the Fiscon kit adds some extra info too...

Oh in that case I already have bend lighting because I have Xenons. emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Can Oil Temperature be activated by VCDS?

BTW, forgot as I've sort of hijacked the thread. Nice car. Enjoy cleaning it every couple of days. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Bend lighting is standard on xenons as said, not sure if it is on pre FL. As for oil temp the manual says for car from late 09.

Many thanks Ado.

I didn't want to spend more than I needed to and also that I'm not keen on tints.
