Its also a case of VFM. The Fabia/Seat/Polo platformed cars are known to be better handling then the Fiesta, and are also more powerful for a similar or lower price with a similar spec. Polo excepted (They also look nicer IMO)

But handling is a subjective thing...I thought the vRS Fabia was nothing special as far as handling goes, being nose heavy and quite understeery. Others disagree.

I suspect that the Fiesta will be nice and chuckable, cost of ownership will be pretty low, and bits of stick-on tat for it will be available in large quantities.

With regards VFM...where does the value come from? The BHP? The 0-60 time? Build quality? Features? Driveability? Interior space? Economy?

Do not rate fords at all for anything regarding value. Mate has a 1.4 fiesta and paid loads for it (cant remember but it was around 10k) My smart can keep up with it, starts better than it (his needs the accelerator down to start), and is built better (and they arent buitl amazing - smarts).

The fiesta S diesel is not a sports diesel by any accounts.

Only thing going for the ST is possible tunability etc - however tuning a fiesta makes you an instant chav/pikey.

Mine rattles like a babys toybox! Squeaks, clicks, thuds, Squeals in high winds as the wind pulls the window away from the seal - all "character". Interior is nice - thats why i'm getting another one

Couldnt fault the interior on mine apart from its drab grey and gets manky too easily... so my new one is gonna be very dark blue with leather wheel

Ivan - if you read this, i'll take you out in that when i get it, its a tad faster and has paddleshift....

anyway i've hijacked this thread enough comparing the ford to what else like roo has said, you cant really justify it, especially looking at consumer surveys of ownership etc.

Festers do handle better than the fabia platform... even the 90bhp fezza/streetka were faster round a track than the fabia..

ive driven a pov spec fester and it was nasty inside... but something about it made it fun to chuck around!

Also bear in mind that nobody will really pay the list price for any ford, unless they are stupid. I wouldnt be surprised if the ST comes out about the same as a vRS after a reduction.

As for understeery vRS, it seems to depend a. how its driven and b. the tyres. I have rarely ever had mine understeer on me, and for its size and weight I feel it fairly chuckable FWIW.

Nonsense, the one thing that Fords, both Focus and Feista are praised for is their handling, while the main criticism of the Polo/Ibiza/Fabia is that its handling is poor with to little feeback etc to the driver.
