REPLACE FRONT CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKET

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone advise how easy/hard it is to replace the front cigarette lighter socket. I seem to have left my multi socket plugged in to the main socket too long and the connection has gone up the creek. The fuse did blow when I was fiddling about, so will replace that ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

I've never had the one in my octy out, but i have had the one in the old golf out and knowing VAG they'll most likely be implemented the same. On the golf it's just a press fit - there's spring loaded lugs on the outside of the barrel of it that tension against the back of the trim when the socket's pushed in.

To remove it i would disconnect the battery then use 2 smallish allen keys, holding them vertically with the short ends facing outwards at the bottom and just use them to hook the inside of the barrel at opposite sides and pull it out.

On the golf there's enough wire to pull it fully clear of the trim and comfortably disconnect the cable at the back.

Other option's to remove the trim but i wouldn't be surprised if that involved unbolding the arm rest, removing the gearstick gaitor etc. etc. == lots of work :giggle:

Just had a thought. If I disconnect the battery I believe I will need a radio code. As I have blown the fuse, would it be safe to go ahead without disconnecting the battery?

If the radio is the standard one that was fitted to the car when it rolled out of the factory then you will be ok

I need to replace mine in my Octy II, but not sure what wiring / cables are needed. Any advice?

May put an illuminated one in place of the original. Will that make any difference?

My 2007 Octy had just black sleeve around cigarette lighter, and somehow I got an idea to change it to illuminated one.

So went to local Skoda dealer and ordered sleeve with light (Part number 1E0 919 341 á 8,50 €).

All I had to do was remove the old sleeve and put new on. The light gets its power from the ligher socket, so no need to new wiring.

Although now the light is always on...

Disconnecting the battery is good advice and when you reconnect you will NOT need a radio code.

However,

you will loose any stored data in the trip computer,

you will need to "prime" the windows by opening and closing them fully up and down so the auto feature "knows" when to stop going up or down,

and finally there will be a steering wheel fault light on the dash!

To cure that just drive in a straight line for a few yards to reset the steering.

I've asked my dealer in the UK to get one of these for me, but he says that the part number does not exist and that he cannot find an illuminated sleeve or lighter socket.

Does anyone know the UK part number for this?
