What to look out on test drive

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm going to test drive a fabia vrs later, it's on a 56 plate with around 27k miles I was just wondering if there are anything important to look out for? It's black and it's up for 7999, is that a fair price?

£8K = any more info? History? condition? seats? Extras?

Make sure it has and engine and wheels! otherwise its going to be a very boring Test drive.

is it at a main dealer?look out for other cars while driving lol

8k seems a bit high to me but meh

The usual, make sure its had a service anually. look out for any bodged damage repair. check it isnt pulling, check it isnt knocking going over bumps

etc etc.

the basic checks - brakes, oil level, wandering steering, does it pull to a side when braking, condition of allows and tyres, knocking sounds. Put it on full lock either way and listen out for the sounds.

Ask whether they know the interior seals have been done, check for a musty smell - usually an indication of condensation. Check air con is working properly also, wipers etc.

Basically switch everything on and see if it works. Hopefully it will go backwards and forwards ok but not sideways. Low milers and FSH on Black VRS's are at a premium in main stealers. Try and work in to the price a free cam belt change at next years service, it will be due then.

I test drove this car yesterday and it pulled like a train.

It made me think that it had been remapped, lots of smoke out the exhaust too (the sales bloke said its smokes because it's a diesel but i thought it shouldn't be smoking this much). It had lots and lots of pull, evan from jumping out of a 240bhp Cupra TSFI and into an apparantly 130 standard Fabia VRS, the guy tried to convince me that it wasn't remapped, evan though i test drove an astra 1.9cdti 150 a few days earlier and that had nowhere near as pull. Could evan here the turbo really sucking in air. Everything felt 'tight' but i was a little disappointed that there were big black stains on the seats.

Anyhow i've set my mind on a VRS SE which i will be test driving tomorrow, i think that the leather seats will be more suited to me as i have a little one and i know i will be paranoid about the white seats staining all the time. Also were parking sensors standard on the SE?

Smoke is normal and potentially the car is remapped. Are you sure it was a Skoda Fabia vRS? From what I hear they are slow! :giggle:
