2009 Fabia 1.4 tdi 80

Featured Replies

Put a deposit down on the 09 Fabia 1.4 tdi (80) and not sure what the service intervals on the car are supposed to be.

Tried to locate an answer on the forum ...with no luck...I have been getting some conflicting information on the internet.

Anyway, the car has done 15500miles and the guy in the showroom told me that he believes that it only needs serviced every 20000miles.

My questions are:

Is the car on a variable service intervals - that would mean 15500miles on 13 month old car is ok?

Or does the service need to be done every year regardless of the mileage?

If it should have been done at 10000 and hasn't... would it affect the warranty if I had the service done now (at 15500miles)?

Am I just worrying too much about this?!

Any help would be great, thanks!

I have a 2007 1.4 TDI and it is not on variable servicing. As far as I am aware the Fabia Is not set up for variable servicing. If it has QG1 in the options code in the sticker at the front of the service book then it could support it. To run longer intervals it needs better oil. You need to be careful though as I had a golf gti 1.8t set up for variable servicing back in 2000, at the time VW uk did not support it and they told me I would invalidate the warranty if I drove past the 10k mile limit.

Best way to tell is to phone Skoda customer service and ask them if the 2009 car was set up for it.

I would try and get your deposit back if it has been taken past the service interval. There are plenty more 2009 Fabia's kicking around at moment.

I get my car serviced every 10k or 1year. I think 20k is leaving it abit long. Best thing to do mate is as a deal clincher for the car, ask them to throw in its next service. Did that when I baught my car.

If the car has been mis-represented by the seller you have the right to your money back , double check with Skoda before buying or you may have no warranty

Get the oil & filter changed ASAP ( must be VW 507 spec oil) and then stick to the 10,000 mile interval . I'm sure someone on this forum will tell you how to re-set the service indicator . It's probably the same as for the VW Polo of the same year. This may be covered in the Haynes manual. I re-set my wifes 2003 Polo from variable to fixed using the instructions in the VW manual.

Welcome Beniamin. Good choice of car...I have the estate version. The car should be serviced every 10,000 miles or every 12 months...whichever comes first. Check that the service at 10k was carried out and the service book has been stamped. If not...walk away with your deposit as this could affect the warranty according to Skoda. You are not worrying too much! This is basic stuff that needs to be right when you buy a nearly new car or you could run into problems later on. Having said that...IF the service at 10k was not carried out, the car will not have been harmed in my opinion. Especially as the vehicle has been driven a good mileage in it's first year meaning the engine and oil will have been running at normal temperature most of the time. The oil will have stayed free of most contaminates especially condensation which turns to sulphuric acid after a few days in a low mileage short journey car. But you would need to get a hefty discount in my opinion to make buying it worthwhile. If the service manual was stamped at 10k then everything is fine but then there is no harm in asking for a deal on the next service at 20k. Keep us informed if you will as to the situation.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice.

Well it's here now... picked it up tonight.

Turned out that the salesman who originally sold me the car didn't really know what he was talking about.

The car has been serviced at 10k in November last year.

I also phoned Skoda UK customer services and the guy on the phone told me that all Fabias in UK are on fixed servicing (1yr or 10000miles)

The only problem now was that they couldn't find the service book! But it has been confirmed by the Skoda garage which carried out the service. All the details are in their system.

I just might need to get a new service book and have it re-stamped by that garage.

All a bit of a mess but happy now as paid 6995 for 13 month old 1.4 tdi 80. 1 trim but with aircon and metallic blue paint.

Thanks, D.

Sounds a very reasonable deal to me. Well done! The 3cyl 1.4TDI is a superb engine, very robust and cheap to run. Enjoy!
