story is i purchased a 2006 octavia sport pd140 with warrented miles in april with 44000 miles. When i put my vcds on and checked the milage it come up with 55069 and the mileage on the instrument panel read 45901, with is 9168 sort. so i contracted the trader to see what he said and he contacted the auction he purchased the car from and they said 9000 miles isn't worth worrying about., so i have contacted trading standards and if i can prove this system is accurate they will take up the case.

so i need some help from people who have octavia II and vcds to post there results so i can find out how accurate the vcds is?

for an example i will post up the results from my dad and mine car is yous could follow same format

Year CAR. Dash. VCDS.

2006 octavia sport-45901-55069-2nd Owner

2006 octavia 4x4-97450-97447-owned from new

this can be found out by going to applications and then to edc15-16 mileage in vcds

thanks for your help

I checked mine and the VCDS 100% accurate. I know thay can be off by 3/4 Kms / Miles but thats about it. Not 9K miles

John

My meter shows more than vcds. That because meter shows about 5% over real speed. vcds have this feature for those cases when you really need to know real driven km/miles.

Cheeky barstewards.

The figure VCDS pulls out of the EDC-16 is 100% right.

Take these crooks to the cleaners. Let us know how you get on.

Sorry, can't post you any figures as my pd170 has a gay Siemens ECU, not a Bosch ::( but I know my old PD105 was within a mile or two of the dash figure.

so the generally this is accurate to a few miles then i don't wanna go beating my chest if this might not be accurate

Yes it's extremely accurate. Go and beat your chest. They're crooks and they've done you over.

Maybe I am missing something here, but is the 55069 the value you saw or a converted one?

I ask as I am pretty certain the car stores it's own value in km, not miles.

Still doesn't make the figures add up mind.

I'll edit post to make sure it's easier understood.

Being a 2006 I assume it had its first MOT before you bought it & before it was bought by the dealer so what does that show for mileage, that will give a clue as to if & when it was clocked, If the car has been clocked that may not be as straightforward as you would hope, you may have bought it with 12 months MOT with no record of an earlier one but the DVLA will have records & I see no reason why they wont talk to you. I bought a car with dubious history & I found someone who was very helpful & what they couldnt tell me they pointed me in the right direction with some direct & pointed hints. If there is a gap with no MOT dig deeper as its been off the road for a reason.

Also what does the service history show, who serviced it, if a car is clocked a new history has sometimes to be created. Ring Skoda & ask if any warranty claims were made, explain why you are asking & they should play ball, mileage & date will be recorded. Its all little things that could help to point to the full story

You could also try & contact the previous owner to see what mileage he sold it at & to who & worst case was it sold as accident damaged. This is very very unlikely but possible If ex company or fleet these are more prone to clocking as they tend to acrue a few more miles than average so a quick shaveing helps the value.

Clocking of cars pre the first MOT is not unheard of, a prestige dealer near us is rumoured to be doing it. If yours was clocked it sounds a bit of an amaturish job as if done properly it shouldnt be detectable to all but serious investigators.

If you like the car & it feels good dont panic, just dig deeper & find out the truth with trading standards behind you. If you discover the car to be a minefield its money back time or if you like it some serious compensation

yeah the skoda dealer the car was sold from wont even let me through the door, but thats another story, i have found that the car was sold as a mobility car and these cars have a milage restriction which means the owner is most likely to have changed the miles so she wouldn't get hit with a milage penalty. the penalty for 9000 miles is around 1100 pounds so it makes sense to have it clocked.

yeah i love the car and 9000 miles isn't very much on octavia dads has 100k and it still driving like new.

it is more or less i dont think whoever done this should get away with it.

Good to see its nothing to sinister but I would certainly persue it, like you its not good to see someone getting away with it & the dealers attitude if its as you say of not really caring is most anoying. Agreed it looks like a mistake on their part but they should attempt to pacify you in some way

If you are sure of your facts a call to Skoda may be in order regarding the dealers attitude & mention compensation as legally you "should" when you sell declare it so its theoretically cost you money

The Motability lease company will also be interested as Im guessing the same person probably has another car through them.

If the dealer remains a total arse & you want sweet revenge get a couple of huge sheets of paper, write the facts on it (FACTS ONLY & must be true) & park the car outside the dealership on a Saturday. that should get their bottoms twitching :D:D
