so, after my mate fitted a new turbo i bought off ebay ive been getting a squealing noise coming from the turbo. Ive done everything to resolve the issue short of fitting another turbo. Tonight i took the oil feed pipe off to see if it was blocked but in doing so a small piece of metal i presume from the oil feed clamp on the side of the engine fell into a hole on the top of the gear box i think, its a hole with a cog visible through it. I tried to fish it out but it went in. should i worry?

the oil feed pipe is absolutly as you would expect from a car thats been serviced every 6 months.

I did notice that the metal air intake pipe goes to a small rubber pipe that goes to the turbo, that pipe isnt completly snug up against the turbo, its about 5mm out on one side. I couldnt undo the washing machine clip but will do tomorrow so i can get a look at the shaft to see if there is any play. :'(

Does it only squeel when your pedal to the metal? I think maybe the 90 silicone bend off the turbo isnt in the right position and under engine rock / load the engine moves and the bottom aluminium pipe from the turbo is rubbing on the driveshaft drivers side have a look mines did this!!

Sounds like the clamp went into the bell housing and the "cog" you can see is the flywheel. I would get it out cos the flywheel could catch it and throw the cog through the bellhousing, or even worse into the gearbox,

that sounds pretty bad...

im not sure what it was to be honest, im pretty sure it was a thin very flat piece of metal from the clamp that holds the oil feed to the side of the engine but it wasnt the bolt or washer or nut. Ive since started the car and nothing untowards happened but i am preparing myself for a bill somewhere down the line.

I took the intake off the side of the turbo and looked at it with a mirror, it looks all fine and dandy, no play, no damage and if there was an issue i would have expected it to have damaged the turbo after all the revving weve been giving the car, not to mention the 500 miles its been making the noise for (the complete life of the turbo).

so, what i know so far.

Its not the egr because i took it off and fitted a blanking plate.

its not the intake system because ive had the intake manifold and air intake off the turbo.

its not the oil feed.

Ive done just about everything i can without the assistance of a mechanic.

I presume the next step is to get someone to remove the whole thing and reinstall it or put the turbo on a test bed and then reinstall it.

How much do you reckon it will cost? :'(

got my dad to rev the engine while i lay under the car, wasnt this. even wobbled the pipe and whatnot to see if that would make a change, didnt though.

i took it out again today, gave it some beans pulling onto the motorway and by the time i came off and revved the car the noise had gone, pulled up at asda and revved some more, no noise. Left the car, did shopping and when i restarted the engine it was back!

it seems like in the higher gears it doesnt make the noise?!?

Yeah it wont hit the driveshaft on your drive!! Have a look on the shaft for rubbing! The shaft is painted black and it should show clean metal if its been rubbing!! Even if it looks like its sitting a bit away from the shaft it doesnt take much engine movement to hit it!! Tbh i think its either this or boost pipe related take the boost pipes off and have a good look for any holes / wear

i have most standard boost hoses if you need any!!!!!

cheers.

Im thinking of ringing my local skoda dealer and getting them to diagnose the problem. Either that or take it to an indy. Im presuming its the turbo tbh but if im right skoda should be able to tell if boost is down etc by checking diagnostics.

I dont know what else to do. Im supposed to be driving it to france next month :o
