Air-con radiator clogged

Featured Replies

Hi

After yesterday in the Welsh sandstorm of Claerwen, behind Llanigraham, when I had noticed the fount of all knowledge that is Yeti (aka TP) was banding down and scrutinising the front of all our cars. He was concentrating THROUGH the lower grille and gazing (lovingly?) at the kit behind which is, as we all know (!!) the air-conditioning radiator for cooling.

I thought I would have a butchers at it - and saw this butchery - all the kamikaze bugs laid out as if for a sacrifice, mixed in with pussy willow things, completely congesting the grille!!

Th link is http://www.flickr.com/photos/16259839@N04/sets/72157624091360827/detail/ in case the pic isn't transferred.

This made me wonder - does this depth of insect slaughterhouse and the layers of floaty things cause the aircon to mal-function eventually? 4675295060_636f04983d_m.jpg

Wait until it dries and try using a soft brush, that should get most of the 'crud' off

Hi Freshacre,

most will wash out in time with rain etc. particularly in the winter months. Would only become a potential problem if the whole thing got well and truly blocked.

Regards,

TP

Hello Freshacre,

I do not think this is the aircon cooler. The front cooler is the intercooler for the turbo, then comes the aircon and last the engine cooler.

Hi Agerbundsen,

Freshacre is correct the condenser is at the front, then the charge cooler in the middle followed by the radiator. Just double checked the maintenance manual.

I went and had a closer look. You are abslutely right. I stand corrected. :(

Cleaning it does not seem to be too difficult. a water spray from the front should get the dust and a small hand brush should take care of the carcases.
