Any views on Green Flag Recovery?

Featured Replies

My Skoda Assist is needing to be renewed... Well it actually ran out a couple of weeks ago!!! :| They want just over £90 for the renewal and i was having a look around at the other companies to see what they could do. I've spoken to the AA who were a lot more expensive and also to the RAC who can get to roughly the same price as the Skoda Assist.... Think it's RAC who do it anyways.

Then i had a look at Green Flag who only charge £60 for the same service. (Everything exept Euro cover). I've never been with Green Flag before so just wondered what they are like. Anybody got any good or bad reviews of them to help me make my decision??

Cheers

Dave.

I have a green flag policy

But couldn't tell you about the service as I've not claimed.

Was with them a few years ago, only used them once, and they provided a good service. Was only waiting about 30 minutes for them to arrive and the guy fairly quickly deduced I'd ran out of fuel (even though the fuel gauge said I had nearly 1/4 tank...)

Towed me to the local fuel station and then I got the fuel gauge sender replaced by SEAT a few days later...

There's always ways to get the AA price down, and most times these threads come up, the AA tend to come up trumps.

Check for special deals where cover gets thrown in with another product, these deals have always been best for me. Lloyds TSB platinum current account worked out under £70 for the year but included full bhoona top tier AA cover which was worth about £160 on it's own -- that deal's not there now but just an idea of where to look.

Supermarkets do deals on their websites with the AA, typically in the same bit as holiday & recreational money off stuff etc.

Call the AA and ask for a quote then price match green flag, i've not had any success with that method but others have.

I'm not impressed with the AA at the moment though.... They wouldn't even entertain trying to get near the £90-odd Skoda Assist price and just told me i'd be better off staying with them. :o The RAC did come down to the same price as Skoda Assist but seeing as they are Skoda Assist anyways i couldn't see the point in switching over for the same price etc.... And as for opening a bank account to save a couple of quid on something like this i'm not too bothered about that either.

After having a look around on the net it seems as though they're all much the same reviews wise so think i'll just save £30 and go with Green Flag. The only issue i can possibly see with GF is with the recovery side just being a local company rather than their own engineers etc.... if you were the opposite end of the country to your destination you may have a series of recovery trucks taking you on the journey. But seeing as i work on the railway and we get free travel we don't take the car anyway if it's anything over a 100 miles or so.

Cheers

My views on green flag are DONT BOTHER!!! we had a mk2 polo years ago and on the way back from york the bleed screw for the cooling system broke ( dont know form that day to this) any way it was looseing coolant and had not got spare,so we had to call em out,ahh found problem went in van came out with a metal bolt and screwed it in :o:o of corse the plug was plastic this action knackerd the heater matrix (cos thats where the bleed is) had to put claim in for a new one not cheap at time.So since then I havent touched them. Thats my 2penneth.

My missus had a nightmare time with Green Flag, who essentially just dumped her and her mates in the middle of nowhere.

Of the 15 breakdown firms in the Driver Power survey this year

Green Flag are 10

AA are 9

RAC are 7

Number 1 is GEM Motoring Assist. They were number 2 last year and number 1 in 2008.... My Skoda cover just ran out, so I'm signing up with GEM... £79 for the 'top' package they do by direct debit.. seems reasonable enough? :S

PS, Sorry- didn't realise this was such an old thread!

I think my parents are with them, although it covers me too if they are with the car.

Used them a few times after my Fabia lost steering, repeatedly and when my dads motorbike failed. Always seem to send out a local contractor (who are usually very, very good - drop me off at my location afterward etc). Think it's freee with their bank a/c or mortgauge, something like that.

In our experience though, very, very good.

Used Green Flag via Tesco Breakdown Cover and tested them a few times with the Fabia. Always came out within the suggested time (45 mins) and happily towed me to the local dealer if they weren't able to fix it at the roadside. My experiences with the AA and RAC don't compare :D

Wavey,

the Which report on Recovery Companies makes interesting reading, and I'm with Britannia Rescue, who have been top for several years.

Other than AA Relay, you will find that in general once the car has been picked up it will stay on that lorry, even if it is from John O'Groats to Lands End.

lol Someone's dug this old thread up..... :giggle:

I didn't bother with Green Flag in the end. I stuck with the RAC (Well joined them as a member but stuck with them as they are who Skoda Assist used).

To be fair mate, I'd dump your missus and her mates in the middle of nowhere!!! ;)

As for the OP, RAC aren't skoda assist, they are the service that skoda assist call when they are unable to assist. as for being the chances of being swapped about between recovery vehicles, because fo the driver regs now it can sometimes be very difficult to get recovered over long distances within a short period due to the lack of availability of drivers with enough driving hours to get you home. In this way the use of local firms could actually be of great assistance
