How do the professionals clean car fabrics?

Featured Replies

Now I know you can buy a can of car fabric spray from your local motorworld but none IMHO actually really get the tough stuff out. I would like to know the process behind giving interior fabrics a really good clean. Can anyone tell me? Thanks

I find that they only come clean with a scrub with a weak solution of APC followed by a blow over with the steam cleaner.

I've found the only way to really get seats etc clean, is to give them a vax (or similar) or a steam clean with an appropriate cleaning agent.

Been dogging in the car then will? :giggle:

Autoglym Embarrassing Stain Remover (AGESR)...apparantly works very well Will

Ask for it by name at Motorworld :D

Tell them Alan sent you ;):giggle:

When I had the seats done in my octavia, the guy first used a cleaning fluid along with a brush to work the fluid into the fabric. Then he used a Vax type cleaner pumping out yet more water whilst at the same time sucking out all the fluid and water. The seat when done was almost dry, and when it did dry was like new and a far better job than any of the cleaners I had tried in the past.

Do you mind saying how much did it cost you?

The reason I'm asking is because I have bought a machine and want to set up a small business that does cleaning of car seats, bulkhead, carpets, etc. I used to work for a company that did carpets and upholstery, but I want to concentrate just on vehicles. I'm not interested in doing full valet work, just the fabrics. Funny how buying a car with ridiculous coloured seats prompted me to do this lol.

I will be working in the North East and will be looking to give a decent discount to Briskoda members ;)

Edit: there are various cleaning techniques you can use, but spray cans of foam wont get rid of the dirt, it will probably reappear in the future. Like the previous post said, you need something that rinses and extracts the water from the seats.

Personally I will be treating the fabric with an enzyme pre-cleaner that brakes down the proteins in the stains. Extract this off then treat with mild detergent, deodouriser, an optical brightener (makes the colours brighhter) and an anti-bacterial wash, then extracting again. For people that haven't seen it done before the results are amazing.

Honestly you two! :D

It was a purely hypothetical question...

Plus I have enough scotchguard on the seats to make them wipe clean B)

Agreed!

I'm in need of my Fabia Vrs seats doing as they're a bit dirty, so when you're up and running I'd be interested in being one of your customers!

Yeah I'll pop over Durham way for you no probs :)

Just need to get my costs sorted, the chemicals are quite pricey so will be a couple of weeks til I get them.
