Octavia iPod connectivity

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've just bought a 2005 Octavia Elegance, which is fitted with MFD2 (Nexus?) Sat Nav and Maxi Dot. From peoples experience, which iPod connector works best with this HU? I've been doing some research and the Dension Gateway connectors seem to be the best bet. Is this the case?

What type of view will I get via the HU? Can I use the steering wheel audio controls to navigate through the iPod Menu? Is it true that I'll loose the use of the CD multi-changer (not really an issue just curious).

I'm budgeting to have this done for under £150, is this realistic?

Would really appreciate some advice and input. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Ive got the 300V2 non-CAN

To answer you questions (IMO anyway).

I researched a lot before coming to the conclusion the gateway was the best for me. Others that I checked are very limited by how many tracks you can have, plus most lose the cd changer.

If you get the newer CAN unit (mine isnt so cant say either way really)I believe the display is on the maxidot and nothing on the HU, but lots seem to have troubles with it (check the octavia 2 thread).

As for steering controls, again I dont have that but I belive you can us ethem.

The gateway has a CD changer option (at cost of course) which tees off the connection to both changer and gateway.

With fitting, I doubt youll get it that cheap, let alone with the changer retainer.

Without, maybe, Im not sure how much the newer CAN models go for, shark90 would be the person to ask as he/they supply/fit them I believe.

Have you tried ebay?

If your on a budget I would suggest a used non CAN version and upgrade when the CAN versions become a bit cheaper.

Please keep in mind that support is hard to get, especially specifics. I had lots of questions when I got mine as details about the limitations and possibilities of this unit are thin on the ground. Their FAQ is useless so emailed instead. A few got answered but I think they got fed up with me and ignored me lol. Maybe Im just too used to support bending over backwards to help and listen to you no matter how obscure the query.

Also mine used to crash on occasion, especially if I use a big drive, but if your using an ipod it shouldnt be too bad. I found the remedy was to pull the 15A fuse out for 30 seconds. Its a bit hard to do while on a motorway though. Im in the process of taking mine out now as Im making use of the HU screen now.
