Yeti going to garage for Tracking problem

Featured Replies

My Yeti is about 35 days old with 2300 miles on the clock. I noticed some time ago the steering wheel isn't straight when the vehicle is travelling in a straight line so have booked it in to be fixed along with the annoying trim rattles from the rear speakers.

Do you think the tracking issue should be covered under the warranty as the vehicle is so new? I don't recall whether it was straight when I bought it, but its certainly been wonky for the past fortnight or so when I noticed the problem.

If it is just that the wheel is not in the center position when you drive straight ahead, it is probably a simple adjustment and should be covered. If the car actually is not tracking straight, you may have a discussion whether or not you hit something - hopefully you did not. If it was tracking OK from the beginning, and there are no bent suspension items, they should fix it under warranty.

They should not mind fixing stuff under warranty - they get paid for it.

I have and still have the same problem with tracking, it was like that when I collected it - I am not sure if it is tracking or if the steering is not straight, but my dealer didn't find any problem!?!? When I drive along on Motorway if I leave my wheel straight, it will go right quick a lot - its out by about 2-3 degrees. I have notified them the first time round, so will send it back shortly with a new headrest tubes when those arrive - fine at the moment though, but I wouldn't think it is there should be a problem if it is fixed under warranty.

If they insist that they have done the tracking and done things with the steering and it persist, I will ask for the suspension to be changed!!

The tracking on modern cars is easy to knock out with potholes and speed humps but if you had the problem from new and have notified the dealer then you have a case for reimbursment or warranty repairs however if you have not informed them and had it done then it will have to be a goodwill gesture on their part.

I can only offer one more glimmer of advice make sure when you get it aligned that you have a four wheel alignment because the rear end can effect the steering as easily as the front and our style car has both ends adjustable.

(I have 2 hunter wheel alignment machines and consider them the best in the business at the moment as I have for several years of managing a garage and correcting over 4-500 cars a month)

Hello,

The tracking was fixed for free and is much better. The rattles are still there after they said they found no fault. Clearly the mechanic as deaf. I will escalate to their service manager soon and get them to check it again as its still annoying me.
