Recommended Fuel

Featured Replies

Right, I've been reading a few threads on here, and I stumbled across one that was talking about recommended fuel for my incoming 2005 vRS. I also found one from 2006 that says it recommends super unleaded on the inside of the filler door.

Does anyone know whether Skoda actually recommends using super unleaded. I must confess I'm pretty firmly on the fence about whether it's worthwhile, but this is the most powerful car I've owned (previous record held by a 138bhp Honda Accord 2.2 CTDi) and I would rather use what the manufacturer recommends.

Please note, this isn't about what I 'should' be using, or the benefits or not of super unleaded (I'm sure this has been done to death here!) rather if anyone has the manual to hand to see if that's what Skoda says I should use.

I'm just trying to do my maths to figure out how much I need to put aside each month for servicing, consumables and fuel, and using super unleaded will change my sums a bit. :S

I always use super unleaded when i can as my octy runs better on it & i get better miles to the gallon on it than regular unleaded so the extra cost doesnt matter.

The sticker on the inside of my 54 plate vRS,says 98ron.

You won't get full power, or best economy without Super Unleaded in the petrol vRS.

I put two hundred and fifty into an account each month. This covers 10,000 miles per year, insurance, tax, fuel and leaves a few hundred left over for MOT and anything else along the way. It sounds a lot - and is! - but it covers all the running costs other than big bills like a new turbo. Hope that's of some use. Oh, by the way, I use V-Power and always have. I don't get any more MPG than on 95ron, but if I wanted massive MPG figures, I would have bought something else.

I'm not to worried about the cost tbh, just what Skoda recommends. Our firm is moving us across to a car allowance from a company car scheme, and so I have £375 a month + my existing fuel bill of ~£60 a month to fully fund my car. Allowing for £80 a month or so for insurance (I have points and live in a dodgy Postcode) :( that leaves me a fair old whack to pamper the car a bit! Add that to the fact that every work journey I can do by train I now will, that should save some cash as well! :p

Fair enough. The day I picked up the car - it had 7 miles on the clock - they said to use Optimax for best results. That's obviously now changed to V Power, but my car definitely runs better on the good stuff and I've only ever used 95ron when I couldn't get hold of V Power. (that's happened four times in over four years and it didn't like it all). Now the car's remapped anyway, it's V Power all the way. The fuel flap says you can use either though.

I didnt use super unleaded till 2 weeks ago and OMG my octy runs loads better on it and i get better miles on it too i get roughly 115-130 miles on £20 on super and about 100 miles on normal unleaded

The official Skoda workshop manual states that you should use 98 RON unleaded in the AUQ engine.

This is accompanied by a note, stating that 95 RON may be used in exceptional circumstances, with reduced power output.

^^ This.

The car has an adaptive ECU that detects low grade fuel and reduces performance accordingly. For the results intended by Skoda, use super.

My preference is V Power, but everyone's different.

V-power or Tesco 99 in mine,:thumbup: runs awful on pauper fuel :giggle:

I also only use V-power in my vRS, after it was custom remapped to run on no less than 98 ron fuel.

But the missus is always on my case about the cost of fuel...... so, just wondering is tesco 99 much cheaper and perhaps most important is it any good ????

Thanks

Bill.

Compared to normal unleaded, Tesco usually 5p per litre dearer, V-power usually 7p per litre dearer, round my neck of the woods. No noticeable difference between the two, for me though V-power edges it due the cleaning additives in it. But thats my opinion. Try it see what you think and missus might bend your ear less :giggle:

I've read that V-power and tesco 99 come from the same refinery so are one and the same? Could be wrong but remember Tesco don't have a refinery so someone must make it for them??? Just done some research and its actually made by a company called greenergy so is different?? Some companies have done comparisons and have found the Tesco stuff makes more power than v power!!

I filled up with "Tesco Momentum" tonight!

Looks like they have re-branded 99 RON super unleaded. Seems like a bit of a naff name!

I feel like a bit of a tit saying I only use Momentum or V-Power! But I do....

99 RON FTW!
