Columbus Sat Nav - help needed please

Featured Replies

iam about to buy a columbus sat nav via a friend of mine, now the unit came from a 2009 octavia vrs which was bought as a salvage spares only car,now this car is a cat b and has to be broken for spares and cannot go back on the road, now as this is a spares only car the vin number has been removed by the insureance company and theres no reg for the car"please note this is normal to stop people applying for a log book and putting it back on the road, now this sat nav systerm which iam about to buy has all its serial numbers on but theres no code for this unit, now my question is can i get the code for this and if so how and who will i get this code from, when i worked at audi you needed a reg number plus vin number to get any codes for their sat-nav systerms, now this sat-nav is cheap at £220 but am i blowing my money or can a code be got for this unit-thanks hoggy

Isnt there any chance of any of the tuners that have things like immobilser defeats etc being able to get round this?

No. You have to go to someone a little shadier. BTW Hoggy, if you don't buy it, I might have it for that money.

is the engine still on the car?

If so, get the engine number. Skoda should be able to trace the VIN through the engine number, if not the DVLA can. its a little more work but better than shelling out 600 odd quid for the columbus

Mmm, this ring any bells to a certain unit on ebay a couple of weeks back ??

I'm sure that as with everything in life, it can be done, it just a matter of knowing where to go !

engine numbers are still on the car but DVLA will not help in this matter,i think they think iam trying to get the reg of the car and trying to put it back on the road

I sent my Columbus to a chap in Poland to fix the DVD drive and in the process he was able to read/reset the security code. It cost me 100E and the postage, which seemed good value for saving the £500 of an ebay purchase. He features on vwnavi.com/my-gti.com quite often. You can contact him by email: [email protected]. Hope this helps.
