Should i fit side protection strips

Featured Replies

Since the Fabia II is a relatively slab sided and high sided car would the side strips give the illusion of less highsidedness

I've only seen what it looks like in the brochure, but things always look better than real life in brochures.

1) Removable?

2) Body colourable?

3) Improved appearance? (would black plastic look cheaper)

Just looked on the website, I too have not seen any on road with them, but from the pictures colour coded

Your right Fabia side panels gives that high-sided vehicle look, without trims.

Possibly the Fabia MK1 trims would fit, take a measuring tape and measure side door trims on a MK1 Fabia ??

Go along to your local Skoda dealer for a set, as sticky pads at back of trim should be ready to stick onto your car.

The purpose of these strips is to protect the car. The appearance is incidental. If you just want a more pleasing appearance, how about experimenting with coloured tape first?

I have them and they do impove the looks, it takes away the high sided look.

However, far more important is the fact they really do work in protecting your Fabia from dicks in carparks etc. My rubbing strips have three quite bad marks in them now that otherwise would have been dings in the door and paint.

That's ditto from me too!

Thanks for opinions, I am going to order some from the dealers.

How should I prepare the surface first? clay bar and wax?

Clay bar yes, wax no

Clay bar yes, wax no

i was thinking of wax on top to give a protective layer so that i can remove the strips in the future without damaging the paintwork

ok, i'll just give it a clay then

The car needs to be wax free, in order for the strips to adhere properly. If you need to remove them (WHY?) Then just warm them up with a hairdrier and gently peel them off. Clean of any remaining residue with meths.

I have the strips as they are standard on a Greenline, but would have had them anyway, if they weren't. i can't quote on the "Slimming" effect as the car is black, along with the strips. They are only around £30 from Skoda but fitting will cost more. They will look absolute rubbish if they are not lighned up properly, though!

I have been toying with the idea of testing the older shape Fab's front and rear bumper strips, to see if they will fit/look ok, too as there seems to be quite a lot of idiots who think the bumper is there as a guide to fit in spaces... Listen for the scraping.. Not too loud, park... Bit louder, move off and park elsewhere, leaving an unsuspecting victim to find nasty paint damage to their P&J! :S
