GPS On Gadget Show (Channel 5) Last Night

Featured Replies

Did anyone else see this?

They had on a fantastic looking 3D GPS unit which actually displays what your view should look like as you're driving along (buildings, landmarks etc..) It was incredibly detailed, even down to the billboard positions being correct!

It will also show all other cars fitted with the same GPS unit on the screen, so you can jump ahead and check out what the traffic's like and spot any jams.

Just a shame it's only available in Tokyo at the moment, and I'm guessing it'll take a while for the maps to be done for the rest of the world :(

Lets hope this stays in Japan. Once we've all got GPS feedback devices in our cars, the government will be able to charge us by the mile, fine us whenever we speed, and even limit our speed automatically.

Also, it's only one step away from having cars that drive themselves. I really don't want this sort of nonsense to happen.

To be honest, it didn't really offer much more to the driver than Tomtom already does: the maps may have been more detailed, but the Tomtom map hasn't let me down yet.

Would rather have the TV system that records 7 channels for 24 hours so you dont miss out. Also records 7 simultanious with 1 @ HDTV quality. Now thats amazing.

The mini pc wasnt too good, OQO already have one for sale.

SNIP the maps may have been more detailed, but the Tomtom map hasn't let me down yet.

Ah you didn't go to the track day on Anglesey then ;) 8 or 9 Skoda turning up at a remote cottage 08:30 on a Sunday morning :D
