Yagi Antenna.......

Featured Replies

Just been receiving an education in wireless networking from a Phd Student.

Told me aout building an antenna which boosts signal for wifi, just using a Pringle's crisp tube and afew other bits and pieces.

Unfortunately, he's a Yank, so the instructions he referred me to don't make a great deal of sense to me, and it's just too painful dealing with the spotty lot in B & Q or the local maplins, so I'm trying to work out precisely what some of this stuff is...........

(it's the parts list)

Apologies for being a complete numptie. I assume "ID" is internal diameter", but "all-thread" and so on, leave me clueless.

Also, anyone know of any laptop wi-fi cards that actually have a pigtail connector (mine don't......... :o )

but "all-thread" and so on' date=' leave me clueless.

Aren't all-threads those endless bolts? Like a metal rod, but with a thread all the way up it...?

Rob.

Thats the ones

best place to obtain this threaded rod stuff?

best place to obtain this threaded rod stuff?

Electrical wholesalers / Plumbing & Heating merchants will have it in stock.

6 to 12mm is usually easy to get hold of.

I agree - all threads sound like bolts without a head - I used some for fence posts a while ago - set 4 in concrete and bold those met posts to them.

I got mine in 1 foot lengths from wickes DIY shop. We not expensive.

We only use metric :P

My old apprentice used to use both.

He once told me we needed a length of cable tray 4ft 18 inches long :D

Another time he asked for the fitters to cut a sheet of aluminum to 5ft 8 by 1.3metres

I use both for measuring...just depends which is "easier" for a given job.

Materials generally come in metric sizes though.

However, i work with 1 Spark who has a habit of mixing measurements...

6 inches & 3mm....that sort of thing :D

i am another muppet that uses both, which ever is the closest if ya know what i mean
