Why No ESP

Featured Replies

The next step will be speed limiters, to stop you breaking any given limit or safe stopping distance, then automatronic vehicles where the car "Drives itself".

great for casualty reduction (Unless the computer fails) But pleasure driving will be nil!

I emailed Skoda UK back in June re; the issue of rear disc brakes. This is their reply:

Thank you for your email dated 21 June 2010 regarding your query about drum brakes.

Please accept my apologies for the delay in response.

Having consulted our Master Technician I can confirm that this vehicle will have drum brakes not disc as the ESP software has

been updated and works effectively with drum brakes.

Thank you for contacting Skoda Customer Services.

Kind Regards

speed limiters are becoming more common on company vehicles (i am seeing more transits / small commercial vehicles etc with bumper stickers saying "this vehicle is limited to xxx mph" )

i would not be happy to see them on private vehicles, but many standard performance cars (bmw ,merc etc) are limted to 155mph i believe

i will probably get abuse for this, but speed in itself is not dangerous, it is inappropriate speed for the type of road and the conditions that is dangerous

eg, if it was legal 100+mph on a clear motorway in daylight and dry conditions is safe (so long as you and your car are capable) but the same speed in the wet may not be

likewise 30mph in a 20 limit next to a school when the children are leaving is not safe as you never know when a child will cross without looking, experienced drivers adjust their driving style for the conditions at the time

as i say it is inappropriate speed for the type of road and the conditions that is dangerous and that is why many of our speed limits are in place and should be observed without the need for speed limiters
