Featured Replies

I can't find the PCD markings on these wheels. There off an Audi A4 estate but I think there 5X112

Will they fit........Please say yes

I know the tyre size is wrong but i have some 215/40/16 lined up.

Nope, not if they are 5x112 and from an A4.

You need 5x100 or you can buy adapters but these will cost you around £100+ for say 112 to 100 adapter.

Thanks Chris, so trhey'll fit "Yes?"

they already have 205/55/16's on and are about half worn.

What about the speed rating, will I need the same ie:- w or y or will a V rating do for winter

For winter tyres go for 205/55R16 91H, this is what I'll be fitting to mine.

You will still need 91V (149 mph) on a vRS as the H's are only suitable for a vehicle with a top seed of 130mph or less, by fitting H's the car would not pass the MOT and would also invalidate your insurance.

Interestingly the handbook states this - which may not be totally legal in this country:

You must only fit those types of winter tyre which are approved for your vehicle. The

permissible sizes of winter tyres are stated in your vehicle documents. Approvals

may differ because of national legislation

...

You can fit winter tyres of a lower speed category to your vehicle provided that you

also do not drive faster than the permissible maximum speed for such tyres, even

if the possible maximum speed of your vehicle is higher. The corresponding tyre

category can damage the tyres when exceeding the permissible maximum speed.

Interesting .... :wonder:

So if i never drive over 70mph ... as that would be illegal in the UK  then according to Skoda's own reckoning I could fit a cheaper N rated tyre (still legal for up to 87mph)? :giggle:

Personally i think I will stick with my V's.

I've looked through my car's documents and can't find reference to them...

In maxidot it gives me the option to set the maximum permissable speed

I dont think that a car would fail its MOT because it had tyres rated one speed level down. i.e. V's fitted when it left the factory with W for example.

There is no reference chart that an MOT tester has to know what the tyre speed rating of every car was when it left the factory.
