Xenons

I wouldnt mind fitting a 6000k HID kit to the furby so i can see better and make the car nicer. How hard are they to fit and are they any good because i know the headlamps are reflector so does this just scatter the light evrywhere? :smirk:

i might go for some 4300k's if they give more light

Piece of **** to fit mate, take you no more than an hour. You'll have to drill you're plastic covers though to put the wires etc through so best to try find a kit that comes with a rubber gromit for the hole

I fitted them to my Fabia VRS but i got the covers off a member on here as a swap for mines so can't mind the size of the hole needed sadly.

Kits vary also, my kit i had in both my Fiesta ST's needed connected to the battery whereas the kit in the fabia is two spade connectors into the original bulb power plug

In reflectors they scatter and are not worth it.

i fitted a set to my old car, straight forward plug n play so took no more than a hr , bought them off ebay..... although dont expect miracles from them emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Fitted a set before and they were a massive improvement on the standard ones -although this wasn't on a Fabia.

In terms of fitting, it is straight forward - over on SeatCupraNet loads of people have some ebay ones from Diane-shop, decent price and good longevity too. These are the spade-type connectors, so its a simple case of taking out the old bulb, the connectors from the old bulb go into a little harness which goes to this box, then this box has another cable coming out which you plug the new bulb into. This comes with a built in grommit. You'll need a 22mil spade drill bit too for the cover. (or at least you did for the kit I fitted).

As said, you'll get loads of scatter and they'll annoy and blind other road users. There's a reason that OEM Xenons use a projector lens in the setup...

I'm not anti HID after fitting a set to my old Roomster and Octy Elegance, but they had projector lamps. As people have said, regardless of the legality you will get a lot of scatter. You could get decent results from a set of Philips Xtreme power or the latest OSRAM offering from powerbulbs (www.powerbulbs.co.uk).

The problem with the scatter is it does not do much to provide useable light for you, but provides a **** load of glare for oncoming traffic.

They look so fake compared to real xenons, 6k is mega blue xenons are white and cool :8

We are not talking about cheapie Ring jobbies with blue painted glass. The Philips Xtremes I have in the Mrs's car are bright white and are way better than the standard OEM Osrams that came out of it.

All depends if you want to see where you are going, or just make a fashion statement.

No im taking about the op, hid aftermarket kits are poo

Sorry but I don't agree. If the right HID kit is purchased, then they can be excellent.

I have had my H7R 4300k HID kit in for 2 years now, used non-stop as I drive with my lights on all the time. Before these I had Philips X-tremes and while they were brighter than a standard bulb, they lasted 5 minutes, and were nowhere near as good at illuminating the road as my HID kit. Also with the HID's they illuminate anything reflective brilliantly, something you fail to get with halogens.

I'm not starting another rant about the legal side of things, but just want to put a point of view across that if the OP wants to purchase a set, then there is one out there that will work well, without having to look 'bling'.

I bet any of you would struggle to tell the difference between the colour of my HID's compared to an X-treme bulb, with 4300k you get the most light output, not the 'blue-factor'.

I have had various people that I know drive in front, and coming the opposite way past me and not one said that the lights were dazzling, infact due to having the lower half of the beam cut off due to the anti reflective coating, they were less dazzling than a set of halogens.

Here's a photo to show how the anti-glare part works - basically dimming the light at the bottom of the reflector which is where glare comes from.

Well i have had both on a fabia, 6k hid on my first and now proper oem projector lights, the whole appearance of the xenon light is miles better than the halogens also visibility :)

in my link the reflector specialist will pass an mot so surely this is legal. also how hard is it to get a set of the xenon oem headlamps and convert?

All new cars that come with factory fit Xenons also have self levelling headlamps and headlamp washers - it is a requirement for new cars with Xenons to have these. Lots of people have aftermarket Xenon kits without the self levelling and headlamp washers and for now they seem to pass MOTs. Not sure if they would pass a VOSA inspection if the police were to take an interest in your car, or if the MOTs will eventually tighten up on this. Worth considering before you take the plunge.

how hard is it to get a set of the xenon oem headlamps and convert?

It's not that hard, but it is very expensive. New xenon headlamp units with bulbs and ballasts are about £500 each and then you need to fit the levelling sensor to the rear axle and run the wire. You will then need a new front bumper, larger windshield washer reservoir, valves and the washer jets themselves. I think it's about £2000 to do it right.

How big are ya man bits?

Found this guide on how to retrofit projector units to normal reflector lamps (on a scoob.. but same procedure i'm sure)
