Orders coming early now ?

Featured Replies

My Scout was set for build week 31 ( ordered April 25th ) but has dropped to build week 25. Looks like others are in a similar position. Have Skoda ramped up production ?

wasn't there a post a while back saying that skoda are upping production again? Could explain it

I've held off commenting on all the "shortened delivery" posts until now.....

I really think this is indicative of falling sales (apparently their main market - Germany - sales have fallen off a cliff offset only in part by China and Russia).

Anyone who says otherwise is either a salesman or wearing rose tinted glasses.

Same problem across all marques except maybe for luxury exotic brands.

I hope mine isn't early - don't want it till 1st September (well I would like it right now but you know what I mean!).

Sales in the UK have dropped off after the change in government; think people are a bit nervous about spending money etc atm.

Yeah my Mrs is a bit miffed about that. I'm not bothered however. Perhaps if it was a week or 10 days I'd ask the dealer to keep it and wait but as things stand it would probably be closer to 4 weeks.

I dont want the car stood around on a Forcourt for that long.

Would be interested in your source for the fall in German sales!?

Agree though things starting to look interesting again - Soros said last week “The collapse of the financial system as we know it is real, and the crisis is far from over. Indeed, we have just entered Act II of the drama.....†

PS didn't want my VRS till sept 1st!!!

Yeah I was told build week 31. Bet you get it sooner. Keep checking with your Dealer.

Not to bothered about the actual registration thing ... I have a cherished plate ... that's just the most convienient time for it to arrive and what all the finances have been based on. Time will tell!

Although an upbeat report its mainly spin. Hidden in the text is...

“The sales results show that the markets in Western Europe are recovering from the economic recession. The only exception is Germany, where the automotive market slumped by nearly 25 % over the first three months as compared with the same period of last year.â€

Basically everywhere scrappage ends there follows a slump.

Or would you prefer "Skoda is ramping up production because they dont want to keep customers waiting and theres going to be a worldwide boom in car sales as economies power out of recession...." thats the line Gordon Brown would have us believe

Spoke to my Dealer today, and my Scout (ordered March 31st) is still Week 31; so no change :(

I dont get it. How can that work ? I order April 25th get Week 31 then dropped to Week 25. You order before me but still have week 31.

I ordered April 17th, still on for week 31

When I ordered my vRS at the end of April, I was given week 31, but I was told at the time that Skoda were looking at putting another line into action at the factory (they were running off two at the time), due to orders exceeding their expectations from the extension of the VAT-free deal.

I was then told week 25 as they had indeed done so.

Anyone who suggests it's due to the car market "falling off a cliff" is talking nonsense I'm afraid - unless, of course, you think that a worldwide car manufacturer DOESN'T plan its production from its sales.......like they were thinking "week 31 because of all the sales we will have coming in; oops, didn't get many, it's week 25 now then". :giggle:

Hi Nick,

I've been told mid July, or 3-4 weeks after week 25 basically.

That's pick-up date, not just delivery into UK.

Thats good. Whats your view on just missing out on the new Reg ?

Oops, didn't get many sales is pretty much how it used to happen.

A manufacturer allocates production volumes & schedules to its different sales companies around the world. They have to take the allocation a certain time before the scheduled build date. If they release their allocation it is then used to reduce back-orders from other sales companies. So, oops no orders in one country results in quicker build for others.

I don't think a manufacturer would put on "a line" to support a short-term marketing promotion in one market. The volume from a new line would need demand from many countries and the investment is large and long-term so not someting that one can turn on and off for a sales deal. Generally to respond to demand a factory will do three things: change the mix on the line (most modern plants make two or more models on the same line to allow flexibility between model demand cycles); speed up the line (i.e. increase the rate of production); put on another shift (i.e. operate the line for longer each day).

I am a little out of date, in the 90s I worked for Ford, Nissan, and consulted to FIAT, and its been about four years since I walked a production line (Toyota, Burnaston), but I don't think the physics of making a car has changed too much.

Hi David, interesting stuff.

I'm only going on what I was told at the dealers, but as I say, this was before they did anything with the delivery dates; the dealer said they would get another line into action - perhaps he meant another shift, but he definitely suggested to me that demand, not just in the UK, was good for Skoda's and they needed more capacity as a result.

Genuinely not bothered Nick.

Had it been week 31, I had a deal with the dealership that they would keep it until Sept 1st.

But week 25 means I get to drive it 6 weeks earlier - I can't bloody wait!!! :smirk:

I tend to keep my cars a fair time, so if it's £200 less come trade-in time compared to a 60-plate, well, as many guests on Jerry Springer have said in the past......WHATEVER! :giggle:

Been told by a Managing Director of a large dealership today that if you want an Octavia, the earliest delivery date is now October. The factory has apparantly ramped up to its full capacity and is running a 3 shift system and still cannot keep up with orders for both UK and Europe...

My thoughts exactly. The Mrs however is a bit miffed ....
