Cambelt change?

Featured Replies

When should the cambelt be changed on my 2006 octavia (1.6 petrol)? I'm sure in the manual its not for sometime and it has not been mentioned as being due when serviced at my skoda garage. A friend though has worringly told me it should have been replaced at my last service (2010) as the recommended time interval is now 4 years regardless or mileage (mine is only 21,000 to date).

It depends which dealer you ask! I've been given different mileage intervals ranging from 60-85K miles for the 2.0 TFSI engine and 60-100k miles for 1.9 and 2.0 TDI PD engines. Regardless of the mileage and engine variant, the general consensus is that the cambelt should be replaced every 4 years.

Yours may be due this year. I'd get this checked and confirmed If I were you.

Hope this helps.

If it is a 1.6 FSI, it has a chain not a belt...

phew panic over - does the chain ever need to be replaced?

Only if it snaps lol (only joking, no there is no service interval for chain replacment)
