6th gear

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2007 2.0 TDI DSG 136 CH.

When in sport mode, the car never goes into 6th gear (drive mode is OK). The guy at the garage said that this is normal. Can anyone corfirm ?

Thanks

If it's anything to go buy I had my vRS is sport yesterday on the way home and noticed it was in 6th, but I was going pretty fast at the time on my private runway of course. I did wonder the same thing when I first picked the car up, my guess is in sport the car keeps the revs and gears lower for more.. well sportiness and response, I think if you got your foot down it would jump into 6th.

its normal, so as to keep the car within its peak torque range 6th gear is not used in sport mode, this is mentioned in the manual.

My FL DSG vRS goes into 6th in Sport mode, but whereas D will change to 6th pretty quickly, when in S it takes a bit longer before deciding that i'm cruising and changing to 6th

(my manual also has a footnote saying that the statement about not going to 6th is not valid for DSG boxes)

The gearbox does not shift into the 6th gear in the position S, because the

maximum speed is reached with the 5th gear 12).

12) Not valid for vehicles with automatic gearbox DSG.

I found with my last car, the DSG box didn't go into 6th in Sport mode, unless the cruise control was on, then it would.
