Advice and, or opinions

Hi, just bought an 02 plate VRS with 127,000 miles. Full Skoda history and tons of receipts for nearly everything done, from bulbs to brake discs etc. It runs quiet and smooth, really sweet. You would think it had done about 50,000.

Anyway, was wanting to put some subtle mods on, induction kit, dump valve, usual thing, just to boost the performance a bit without stressing the engine.

Opinions appreciated on the best kit and such, at a reasonable price. Got maybe £300-£400 to spend.

Also, 18" wheels. Good or bad, and do you need to do anything other than change tyre profile? Not that bothered. I like the standard wheels but you know what its like once you start. Plus, it'll need new tyres shortly, and you can sometimes get wheel and tyre deals for not much more than the tyres

first job would be to check all the pipe work on the intake and crank breather as they can deteriate and split causing running issues. Forge 007P Divertor valve and a remap. possibly some Ferrodo DS2500 pads. Rear ARB is a good mod on a standard car but a must once you start modding. thats your £400 gone (and thats if you get some of the bits from the local vrs breakers - waits for abuse from Clive :p)

Does he strip for a living?:giggle:

or £300-400 i would buy the following.

Neuspeed RARB £220 @ the moment form Awesome

Powerflex Dogbone £15

Replacement panel air filter £40

Forge DV 007 £80

and you will have a small smile on your face.

Where abouts in Cheshire are you from?

Don't bother mate keep it standard, £400 isn't enough to get anything much performance wise you might as well spend it on petrol or save it for if something breaks (or as you say new tyres)

£400 is enough for a remap but what about the brakes, DV etc, also the increase in insurance for having a remap.

forge 007p dump valve £50 second hand, Whiteline RARB £100 - £150, Panel filter £20, Remap £250, there's your money gone mate.

whoops a bit slow

Thanks for all that.

To answer Jaymd, I'm in Macclesfield, and being a bit new to the car mod game (as I'm really a biker, and numpty) some of the terms would have to be explained to me. RARB? Powerflex Dogbone? I'm assuming you've done these to your car, but it sounds about what I had in mind (to start with) Like i said, I know once you start you can't stop. All that shiny new stuff to open. Any idea of power increase, or can you just feel its better?

A lot of the pipework is quite new, and I don't know if this is good bad or indifferent, but quite a bit of it is Audi stuff. Presumably its the same, with a different stamp.

Rear Anti-Roll Bar - A lot of vRS owners feel that their cars understeer too much, and this will reduce understeer. You may feel the handling is fine in which case there is no point in a RARB.

Powerflex Dogbone - Powerflex are a company making uprated suspension and engine/subframe mounting bushes. The Dogbone is one of these bushes, so called because it looks like a cartoon dog's bone.

Remap - for £250, they're talking a generic map, which is likely to give you an extra 20 to 30 bhp, on about 180 base.

The Audi pipework may well be from the 1.8T225, which suggests the previous owner may have been considering a custom map anyway. I'd suggest checking whether you have standard or up-rated springs and dampers.

Thanks for all that.

Most of the little hoses under the bonnet are marked with the Audi Rings symbol, they're just common across the VAG range.

are the breather on the intake manifold on the underside?! as i seem to be getting a bit of oil from them.
