Sorry ,Bertee - not trying to teach Gran about removing the inside of eggs - so apologies for that -now this lead ( at risk of offending again) -did aGoogle on OBD11 - CAME UP WITH THIS SITE http://www.carplugs.com/

No apologies necessary :)

The problem with VDS-Pro, from what I have read, is that it is very, very fussy about the lead that will work for some reason.

The only threads I have found where people have got it working are US and old ones with out of date links to the leads :(

Which specific PCMCIA serial card do you have? the rosstech site says they only support one (of an expensive) bred. I would happily invest in a cheapo on if I thought it would work ok :-)

A cheap-a55 Hong Kong special! Cheapest I could find on Ebay.

OK, So its a working serial cable that you need to run on the DOS program?

Im presuming your Serial Ports are properly configured and the baud rate, etc settings all set up correctly in DOS.

Have you tried another serial device on the port to confirm its OK. An old modem for instance.. (might be worth rigging up a serial loopback device to test it)

Does the serial to OBDII cable have any electronics, circuitry, etc on it?

Have you checked there are no wire breaks in your cable using a multimeter?

I can sort a loopback device, I've got some old serial connectors around here somewhere.

The lead has never worked from new and as it was cheap I just bought a USB lead which worked perfectly so never bothered with why it didn't work, I could buzz it through when I get home and see if there are any problems, though with the electronics I am not sure what the results will be.

As for electronics, there are resistors, a rectifier, capacitors etc etc and while I could probably knock one up (if I could find the components) I would rather get a known working lead.

All I want to do is the auto windows, so I only need the one use out of it, and by the time I get it done it will be winter :giggle:
