1.2TSI DSG rear disc brakes?

Featured Replies

Can any owners tell me whether the 1.2TSI DSG Fabia has rear disc brakes please?

No. They don't, Skoda again made a mistake in the brochure.

Hi,

as James states no but I have seen photo's of disc brakes fitted to the rear of a Fabia hatch TSI (85) see the ESP thread My link :wonder:

Been to the dealer today and apparently no rear discs anymore they now have drums which also work with ESP, so who knows? :wonder:

Online brochure now just lists drum brakes for the rear, which seems a bit tight especially on higher powered engine versions or cars with ESP.

Looks like the Roomster still has rear discs on certain models.

I wonder if you opt for the ESP Plus option that you'll get disc brakes then?

Well, I think you're the ideal man to find out James! ........and try to find out before I stick in an order for my wife's car!

Skoda got it hopelessly wrong with the F/L Octavia and probably have again with the F/L Fabia. All the TSi Octy DSGs have ESP, Hill Hold as standard although Skoda originally stated otherwise. The outgoing Fabia in tiptronic form has rear discs, ESP and even TPM. They have probably got it wrong once again!

Looking around on the internet a number of other new cars have ESP with rear drums. Personally I won't have a problem with drums on the rear because:

My Octavia has discs on the rear and they tend to be prone to corrosion because the amount of force applied to these discs during braking is significantly lower than the fronts so don't tend to self clean or heat up as well as the fronts.

The handbrake is quite weak on these very small discs. (Apply the handbrake while moving you'll see how relatively ineffective it is)

There's 4 wheels to clean brake dust off with all-round discs.

I think, that even during extended fast driving around the local B roads I would struggle to overheat the drums.

The downside is, for me, aesthetics, discs do look so much better

Hi Bassa

by wrong, I think you mean Skoda got the communication of accurate infromation wrong, not the designs of the cars themselves?

Just checking!

Absolutely. Take it you mean akcurate information :giggle:

He he!

I didn't think you could have turned against ESP and HHC having experienced them on your Octavia! It is hard to see how badly Skoda UK can fail to communicate technical information accurately and consistently.

It looks like they don't have a technical editor working on their brochures, or alternatively the editors are badly briefed.
