1.2 azq silencer

Featured Replies

Son's fabia passed its 6 year MOT OK again. (91,000 miles) :)

Garage commented about a large split / peeling skin with rust on rear silencer. I had noticed this develop over the last 18 months or more. Strangely its not blowing though. Have spayed some hammerite in the split in a vain attempt to slow the rust.

The shock is the £270 to replace the back box (with a budget brand and not OEM!) quoted by the dealer.

More of a shock is the Kwik Fit quote of £152 - apparently the middle section is joined to the rear box by a sleeve and Kwik fit exhausts dont fit this sleeve, so they have to change the mid section as well. :S

Looking around for a silencer costs around £80 the cheapest. The sleeve costs £25.

A bit narked by the cost considering this is supposed to be the budget end of the fabia range!

Keeping fingers crossed that the exhaust will hold out.

What worries me more is the silencer on my Fabia 2 (also 1.2 engine) is starting to rust quiter badly even though its only 1 year old (5000 miles).

Poor quality?

May be worth looking into getting a stainless steel one that won't rust again?! :)

Have a rummage on Ebay for local fabias being broken for spares. Should be able to find a decent one cheap enough, and genuine too. If it was a TDI I would be tempted to get the backbox replaced with just a straight piece of pipe with a tail on the end - Less to go wrong and would add a little bit of performance and exhaust note.
