Carwashes & Aerials

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Although I usually wash my car by hand, due to time restraints I'm considering popping it through a carwash for the first time this weekend. I have a mk2 estate (4x4) and it has the 2-position aerial.

What is the best thing to do with the aerial? Loose or tightened in the "down" position? Anything else I need to be careful about?

Cheers,

Richard.

Wait until you have time to do it yourself properly

Well said that man! You haven't got time to wash it, <it is light from 5.30 am till 10pm but you have time to post on here?

I would tend to agree, although I was wondering what view people have on the newer 'touchless' car washes? My local garage to work has one of the touchless car washes. I'm guessing these are a little safer?...

In answer to the OP, tighten the aerial in the down postiton, but to echo previous comments avoid the automated machine washers!! :o

I religiously wash my car by hand but on the rare occassion I haven't got time, I will take it to a friendly sausage roll, but I will always stay with the car, not just to insure a good job, but because the Eastern European establishments have been known to clone your keys then chore your pride and joy at a later date!

NOOOOOOOO, don't do it +100

I was parked in my local Tesco recently, watching the nice Eastern European chaps cleaning cars. Let's just say it didn't surprise me in the slightest when they dropped the chamois on the floor then picked it up and continued to 'buff' the nice (and fairly new) Jag XF. Detailing by asphalt

I personally would just wait until you have a little bit more time available to do it yourself.

If it's brush free it's probably ok.

Personally, if I don't have time, I pop into a jet wash and give it a rise to get rid of the dust and flies on the screen, then wait until I can do it properly.

Just use this

Yes,, A rince with no touching keeps the heavy grit off to an extent.
