Hill Hold Control

Featured Replies

Can anybody who has this feature fitted to a new Fabia or Roomster tell me whether this feature can be turned off or not?

Just thinking that if I bought a car with it and found it annoying whether it could be disabled easily....

Obviously not a Fabia but with my Yeti's HHC the answer is no; not by the owner anyway and I would say this applies across the range.

Personally like this feature so included it in our Fabia order.

The VW Tiguan has a slightly better system; Auto Hold which holds the brakes on no matter how long your stationary or the angle your at. This can be turned on or off by the push of a button alongside the electronic park break leaver.

Thanks TP...

So it knows when you are on a hill? I somehow didn't think of that! Does it only activate on particularly steep hills?

I'll let you know in September when I get my car. The Passat I have has an electric Handbrake and I think it is 5hite! can't be used in the winter when you sometimes need to steer the rear of the car, but also has a device which puts the brake on every time you stop.; The brake only goes off when you depress the clutch AND touch the throttle. The system has proved to be a pain so I hope the HHC is better sorted!!

Thanks TP...

Hi,

works from a 3 degree angle upwards; need to remember to give it a few more revs on steeper slopes to overcome the brake hold or you can stall. Yes been there myself

Also supposed to work in reverse if going up hill backwards although I've not tried that.

HHC on the Octavia can't be turned off.

However it's worth pointing out that it's only activated when you press the foot brake, and deactivates after 2 seconds. So assuming you come to a stop on the brakes, then put the hand brake on, then wait to pull away, then it won't be active. If you press the brake pedal, then take off the hand brake and pull away within 2 seconds, it will be active. So you can choose whether you use it or not.

The only time you don't really have a choice is if you stop on a hill and then start again within 2 seconds.

But it you are used to doing conventional hill starts with the handbrake, you still can, it's just that the HHC will be holding the car as well as the handbrake, so there's no roll-back if you get it wrong.

When I bought the car I thought it was just a gimmick and didn't really want it (I learned to do hill starts when I passed my driving test). But having had it for a couple of weeks I find it doesn't get in the way, and if I bother to use it it makes hill starts a little bit easier and smoother.
