Power steering light on.

Featured Replies

My power steering light keeps comin on now and again. The resevoir has been checked and varified to be full. I was a bit worried because when the system runs dry it can damage the pump if you continue to use it with no fluid. :wonder:

I guess it really needs the codes reading with vag-com/vcds to see what the computer thinks is wrong.

Oakie dokie, I think I'll wait til a few others pop up lol. Make it worth the money :giggle:

If the reservoir is up to the full mark, its not a lot more you can do, other than get steering light code checked-out from a code reader!!

My daughter's 1.9SDI Fabia Classic does it too - the power steering light sometimes stays on after the engine is started, and the power steering doesn't work, but if you stop and restart it all is OK. I heard somewhere that it is a recognised software problem with this system - don't know if its the same thing as your problem or not.

HTH.

Yeah I thought it was a common fault because the power steering seems to work just fine. No leaks or anything.

mine did it esp on cold mornings its the battery voltage that is to low i put a new battery in and no problems since then they are very sensitive to the battery power levels start doing odd things with warning lights

Ahh right ok then, thanks. Thats would explain it bein intermitent. Cheers

mine has done the exact same thing 3 times and each time it was when I started and drove off from the exact same place parked on a slope going down and to the right would get car forward turning right to go on down hill and beeeeeep stopped at bottom restarted and all fine only done it when ive used this specific space im hoping it was just the angle steering works great and no leaks but don't fancy digging for the reservoir to look for myself getting dropped on 4 year service soon anyway

Mine has the same problem.. Just bought it as a non runner because of this fault but been driving it about this afternoon and seemingly fine,,,,,then the light comes on and steering is heavy... The previous owner told me it would cut out and that the quote for repair was around the £700 mark.....

Anyone shed any light on this for me,,,have priced a pump and its nowhere near that.....

www.bba-reman.com will repair these pumps it seems. Other issues, as long as the wiring is still good at the pump assembly, include the battery and charging system as these pumps need a lot of amps to be available, and also the steering sensor. None of this comes from personal experience (yet!), just snippets picked up from owners and forums.

Well the car has been sat for months now so the battery was totally flat,,, got it started today and the steering seems to have improved on what i was told,,,battery maybe?????

Thanks for the reply,,am new to skoda ownership so still finding my way round...

thanks again

Yeah thanks for the reply's guys. I guess it is down to low battery voltage, it must draw like 15 amps or something. Juicy that power steering pump!

Eh - I think that you could quadruple that during a high demand - but I'm only guessing.

60 AMPS when fully working hard.
