Accident :(

Featured Replies

Had a little accident today. Had to change the rear wheel had a flat so i proceed to get the jack out and jack it up ( was in the car park nice and flat surface. Than WAM the car falls of the jack and into my sill :( so now i have a lovly dent in my sill that looks so bad. NEVER EVER will i be using the jack that comes with the car.

Gutted for ya mate :(

:( ah dude  How bad is it?

We used to call this type of jack a widow maker. Have seen these twisted out of shape, crushed hands feet, especially hands if removing the wheel when it collapses. It would appear that vehicle jacks are not included in any safety regulations.

A trolley jack is not very good to carry in the boot, but if you decide to buy a small one also purchase an ice hockey puck, " try Crazy Kenny's" cut a slot for the body lip, you will find this ideal, they fit in the shaped head of the jack and there will be no damage to your sills.

No offence but I don't understand why so many people have problems with these jacks. I've run many a large car heavy A4s, Octavia, A6 etc and never had an issue with the jack supplied. There is a lip the jack sits in to stop it moving around the sill; was it not in this ?

What he said really /\ /\

if used correctly and located correctly on the sills (there is an arrow on the sill to show the proper place) they are fine

I know the sill lip on my car on one side is totally flattened from a previous owner. In such a case using the car jack is a bit of a hazard.

The OP mentions changing the rear wheel . . . were the front wheels chocked with anything? If not, even if the car is in gear, it could quite easily roll forwards a little, especially if the handbrake isn't that strong. Worth keeping a few little blocks of wood in the spare wheel well for this purpose.

u can pull the sill back out with a pair of pliers or the like,as the metals pretty soft,i did it mine after a garge flattend both sides on their ramp.
