Drop Link help

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have got my 4x4 20vT on coilovers now and dropped it right down but my drop links are sitting/hitting the wishbones.

Have been looking abut but still cant see any shortend drop links for a 4x4 :-(.

Now on the 4x4 thay go from the arb to the coilovers and on the vrs thay are small and go from the arb to the wishbone,so i was thinking can i just get the small 1s and but them to that wishbone instead??? the points are there on my wishbones to do it like that but not shore if it would be ok to do it or safe?

Hope some1 has done this befor as the clunk clunk is driveing me nuts lol.

Hi Buddy, think you have that the wrong way around. The VRS has longer drop links that go from FARB to susepnsion strut (same as Golf R32 , Audi TT, S3 and Seat Leon Cupra R). Your 4x4 shoul dbe the shorter drop link from ARB to wishbone as per standard Octy and Golf variants.

If you have the same as a VRS then someone has modded it that way.

to get over the ARB clunk you should be buying the FK shorter drop links. These are common on ebay and performance tuner companies.

Venom motorsport sell them.

The car is a 2001 octavia 20vT 4x4 elegance.

The suspention that come off it looks complety standerd but with long drop links like i sead and even the coilovers i go are for my 4x4 and thay have the fixing on the dampers to fit the long drop links to ???

This is getting confusing lol.

Will get the photos taken when i get back from work.

Just looked on ebay and im right in saying its long 1s it takes as staned.

Hi buddy that is strange. It looks like I could be wrong. Maybe it is the older 4x4 having short arms. You certainly can't mix the 2. As they are for different set ups. It is either one or the other.

You are stuffed then as you must have the car low low. You can't use shortened drop links as they won't be long enough to turn on the ball joints when connected to the front struts. I tried that .

You have 3 options.

1. Raise car a little

2. Get Audi TT / S3 / golf R32 wishbones and Hubs as these wishbones sit better allowing more gap on drop link due to the wishbone ball joint being at a differant angle.

3. Fitted a none VRS type FARB which will allow you to use the short drop links that bolt to wishbone

cheers

Mark.

Have just got a set of drop links that are 2'' shorter and and fit the way thay should :-) the funny thing is thay are for a C class merc hehe,

A very nice guy at a local auto part shop spent some time looking at all his drop links in stock for some that had the same ends but shorter to stop the hitting :-)
