Air con re-gas no help

Featured Replies

Hi All,

A/C stopped working last week, took it to a specialist to get a re-gas but it did not work, guy reckons the compressor needs replaced and it will cost £400+ - Anyone else has this problem? A friend has a MK5 Golf and their A/C has just packed up as well.

Just been having a quick google and looks like this A/C fail is V.Common - Has anyone managed to get a goodwill payment out of VW on this?

The compressor failed on my last Octy at around 130,00 miles and just over 3 years. It was a 2006 model, so it looks like it was one of the dodgy ones mentioned elsewhere. Fingers on my current Octy. It may be a coincidence, but the A/C seems a hell of a lot better on the new one than the old one - it seems to get cooler quicker.

Of course I meant, "fingers crossed".

My 58 plate compressor failed at 15000 miles so they ain't that much better - lunched the condenser too according to our fairly useless Skoda dealer who couldn't even put the front end back on properly :p

mine (07 plate) failed after about 15k miles, but replaced under warranty. Done another 25k miles now and all seems rosy (cue failed compressor in the morning...)

I know a Mk V Golf owner and an Octavia owner who's compressors have failed.

The Golf was under three years and was fixed under warranty.

The Octavia was over three years old. Skoda offered a good will payment, but it was still cheaper to get it fixed at an independent garage.
