Knocking noise

Featured Replies

I have a strange knocking noise when pulling away swiftly. If i pull away really gently then i hear no sound. It rarely makes the noise when slowly down but i have heard it a couple times. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thanks

probably your front console bushes. common issue, people uprate them to seat ibiza cupra console bushes as there solid which the fabia vrs's aint ;)

these are £8 each from seat

have a search :)

also maybe your dogbone engine mount

your problem definitely sounds mount or bush related :)

I have the EXACT same noise and does it only when pulling away and only started doing it recently !

I have the cupra bushes and just changed the droplinks and bottom ball joints, I've got some track rod ends to go on and if it's still there I think the strut tops are fooked as I have noticed tonight it does it when driving on cobbled roads !

Engine mounts???

mine has started doing it more recently and even when slowing down now.

If you get it sorted before I do let me know please :)

If it is the dogbone mount is it worth going with an uprated one or sticking with a replacement stock mount for a 1.4 8v Fabia?

will do i will let you no what it is when i get it sorted.

i had same noise all the time, setting off ,brakin, speeding up :(, so far changed, dogbone mount, cupra bushes, n/s wishbone and balljoint,

heard the noise about 3times in week now after all that changed lol

I had a similar problem very recently and it did appear to be an engine/gearbox mount/ The noise came when in 1st, 2nd gear mainly and happened if the clutch was dipped or released.Had drop links, dogbone mount replaced.Even the console bush was replaced. Noise still was there. My usual mechanic spent abut 3 hours trying to diagnose what it was. I then took it on his recommendation to Sanspeed to see his MOT friend. He checked it over and also came to the conclusion it was side engine mount (located under battery) or possibly the AR bushes needing lubing. However...got to admit I didn't think it was that as normally thats more of a squeek and you'd surely hear it more around corners.

Anyway took it to skoda and the "mechanic" said it was the track control arms. Charged me for the mis diagnosis also and when he mentioned it I knew he was talking out of his arse. The only way they'd be movement is if the front or rear bushes were failing but they were new.

I took it to AMD in essex and the guys there were brilliant. worked out it was the mintex brake pads rattling around. Managed to demonstrate this while the car was on the ramp, They fixed the problem using pagid contact paste and no more rattle. it could come back possibly but will change them over to skoda pads if it does.(have a spare set luckily)

I still have a brand new side engine mount which i will keep in case that does go.

In your case you could check its the dogbone mount by removing the undertray and seeing if there's movement in it. or check the console bushes and for any broken collars around the front roll bar. Check all bolts including the ones on the caliper are done up tight. Then if all else fails check the side engine mount and use PTFE grease to lube it.

I wouldn't bother getting the uprated dogbone mount as have heard it produces alot of vibration and more noticeable as you pull away because the engine will pitch up and down.

Oh and Mintex pads are crap :giggle:

I'm sure a lot of noise complaints are due to these and usually people either live with them or give up trying to fix it as they end up renewing loads of components that dont need it.

Interesting

I have mintex pads so I wonder if mine are having a party aswell !!!

Kinda hard diagnosing these, as I think they're all different ones lol Brake pads being lose should be quite easy to find (at least it was in my case). accelerate a bit, brake, drive backwards, brake. if it clonks both times could very well be the pads moving. can also jack up and rotate the wheels, see if the pads move slightly.

the dipping the clutch/accelerating/gear changes does sound a hell of a lot like the engine mounts, either dogbone or gearbox side. I suffered from this too and replacing both fixed it.

Since i got the car about 2 years ago now, pulling away occasionally i get a dull thud, no idea what this is. new discs and pads all around (all oem) and its still there. console bushes, arb links and bushes all replaced its still there.

Happens mainly on hill starts, but not always. I've learnt throwing money at these problems is a slippery slope :'(

I changed the track rod ends on both sides last night even though it was only the drivers side making a noise and the clunk when pulling away has gone completely, I've tested it loads aswell, pulling away slowly, a little harshly and no noise what so ever :D

FFS !!!!

The noise is still there even though it wasn't to start with !!!!

It's getting right on my tits now !

have you replaced the console bushes and lubed them?

have you replaced the console bushes and lubed them?

Yes it had the cupra and powerflex bushes ages ago now and never made this noise

I've fitted new droplinks, bottom ball joints, track rod ends and had the tracking done and it's still there !

Sounds like it might be the engine mounts by reading a topic on here anout them being dodgy or something ?
