Someone point me in the right direction please?

Featured Replies

Did a service on the vrs on the weekend. new oil, sparks and 4 new coil packs. now the car runs sweet!! i also want to change the coolant, but after draining off the coolant using the black " tap" on the underside of the car by the radiator, I only got about 1.5 litres out. Now i know there must me more in there, so i am guessing i only drained off the radiator. Where is the drain plug for the coolant that circulates around the engine block on a octavia mk1 vrs (auq)? and to refill does all the coolant go back into the expansion tank or is ther another filling point. . . the maintainence manual doesnt list certain things u see. Also, the power steering fluid, how does one drain this off, I can only find info in the book on how to re-fill it. thanks in advance for ur help

Rob.

It should have fresh coolant anyway, when the water pump was replaced when the timing belt was done.As for power steering fluid,it dont need to be changed.

indeed, but the coolant will need changing eventually, do u kno how to drain it all out? i cant find the plug anywhere

According to my Haynes book of fables, you need to remove a hose from the oil cooler to drain the engine block of coolant.

I had to drain mine when I changed my thermostat. The plastic tap on the radiator of mine is jammed so I ended up disconnecting the hose from the rad to the thermostat. That will drain your coolant pretty quickly! I think the coolant in the block didn't come out until I removed the thermostat though as the stat was closed. Then flushed it through by pouring bucketfuls of water into the expansion tank. Refilled it via the expansion tank with the correct mixture of G12++ and water and it's sweet.

If you find the hoseclips are difficult to undo on the rad to thermostat hose then I think you can undo any of the thick coolant hoses around the coolant temp sensor on the right hand side of the engine and the coolant will spill out of there too.

I didn't bother disconnecting the hoses from the oil cooler as recommended by Haynes as they were a b**ger to get the mole grips onto the clips.

thats what mine said but wasnt sure if the oil cooler was just one side of the radiator? am guessing the left side as u look down at it from the front . . . many thanks, will have a bash one day. its amazing the difference after new oil and sparks and coils!! money well spent.!!

The oil cooler is the blocky thing between the oil filter and the engine block, there are some hoses going into it about 1cm thick

The oil cooler is just above oil filter.
